Uther is a monster

Terrible take, OP. Uther did nothing wrong.

That’s not how that works tho. Tirion lost his connection to the light because he knew what he did was wrong. Remember, the light responds to faith and zeal, if you doubt your actions, the light will not answer.

Saying that Uther ‘stripped’ Tirion of the light is like saying that someone stripped me of light when I turn off my lamp

You would think.

You are both right and wrong. If a person’s faith is strong enough, no force can truly cut a person off from the Light. However, Uther did cut Tirion off from the Light in a process known as Excommunication.

To quote directly from Chapter 5 “A Trail of Will” of Chris Metzen’s Novella “Of Blood and Honor”, near the end of the chapter, it states the following.

The audience gasped at Uther’s words. Excommunication was a rare, harsh punishment that stripped a Paladin of his Light-given powers. Though it had only been used a few times, every Paladin lived in mortal fear of it. Tirion could not fathom what was about to happen. Before he could utter another word, Uther made a sweeping motion with his hand. Immediately, Tirion felt a dark shadow pass over him, choking out the holy power of the Light. Panic threatened to overwhelm him as the grace and strengthening energies of the Light fled his body. The blessed energies, which had been such an integral part of him for so long, ebbed away just as if they had never been. Though the light of the Hall never wavered, Tirion felt as if he had been wrapped in darkness and cast down into oblivion. Unable to withstand the raging despair and hopelessness that washed over him in waves, Tirion lowered his head in abject despair.

In addition to a direct quote from the book, both primary WoW Wiki’s also state it as Uther taking away Tirion’s access to the Holy Light, word for word actually.

Ultimately, the jury of Admiral Daelin Proudmoore, Arch-Mage Antonida, Archbishop Alonsus Faol, and Prince Arthas Menethil decided that since Tirion had assaulted Alliance soldiers, he could no longer be a member of the Knights of the Silver Hand and was doomed to exile. Uther the Lightbringer performed a ceremony to strip Tirion of his powers and sent him home to gather some supplies. However, as a last token of respect to his friend, Uther did not exile Tirion’s family for his crime.

Uther DID cut him off and strip him of his powers in the similar way to how the Original Paladin’s were granted their power (Also outlined in an earlier chapter, chapter 2 if I am not mistaken, when Tirion is unconscious and remembering his ascension to becoming a Paladin.)

You are not entirely wrong, because at the end of the book Tirion’s faith in the light overcame what Uther did, however to deny that Uther cut Tirion off from the Holy Light is just wrong. He didn’t lose his powers because he lost faith in himself, like you are implying, he lost the Holy Power granted to him via Ceremony when he became a Paladin and through his faith he formed his own connection with the Holy Light.

That Arthas was trying to save his people was an excuse. He was told what he needed to do to save his people before he decided the population of Stratholme would need to be culled. He was then warned he was only going to hand his kingdom over to his enemies if he continued to follow the path he was on. Arthas ignored warning after warning. His mistakes are in no way justifiable.

A few things to ponder

The current writers aren’t the original writers are they? Uthers character might have changed drastically so they can push another characters story.

As the maw walker, we can pull people through the maw, though I’m not sure if there’s a time limit on that.

If Arthas would have worked with the other Paladins perhaps the outcome could have been different. Surely Lorderan wouldn’t have fell.

Arthas killed his own father and destroyed the Kingdom of Lorderan which is what the undead was going to do anyway? Maybe they would have lost. There is no guarantee in any scenario. I know this for sure Kel’Thuzad would have stayed dead.

Without a Champion the Lich King was doomed anyway. He needed Arthas to carry out his plan of being free of the dread lords.

Everyone turned a blind eye to Arthas and put to much responsibility on him at his age. Either way Uther did the right thing by sticking to his principles.

A person of honor stands by their convictions even in difficult times. If you abandon your convictions when it is convenient you never held them to begin with. That is the essence of being a Paladin serving the light.

Paladins serve the realm the best way they know how based on the circumstances. Uther is a true hero so to see him so broken by Arthas’ betrayal is gut wrenching. He loved Arthas like a son and he murdered him and tore his soul in two. Uther will more than likely later regret throwing Arthas into the Maw. Even Arthas deserves a chance to go to Revendreth for penance.

Arthas that was corrupted destroyed his kingdom.

But you know what did happen? He culled strat which had the positive effect of the high elf.city and the kingdom of lorderon didnt get over run by the scourge. That only happened when he came back as a corrupted person. That’s the facts. The only wrong choice he mad was going to Northrend. But one could argue if he didnt go to northrend then illidan. Would have destroyed the helm causing alot more bad things to happen as well as causing the legion to win.

Did he really, though? I know dreadlords are pretty good at acting, but he seemed genuinely shocked when, instead of rickrolling Arthas, Ner’zhul orders him to exterminate Mal’ganis. He was still pretty butthurt about it after he came back from the Nether and tried to kill Arthas again by hijacking Balnazzar’s army of zealots.

Dang, this is the same kind of mental gymnastics Sylvanus simps go through trying to say she is “good”

Don’t forget that Arthas was subduing the Scourge to break away from the Legion and he gave Illidan the power to stop Tichondrius in Felwood. This slowed the Legion down considerably. Although this was to consolidate power for the Lich King and cripple the Legion, it helped save Azeroth in the long-run.

BUT… it was also him (well Kel’thuzad) that summoned the Legion to Azeroth so… it really depends on how you wanna look at it lmao

No one is saying Arthas was good. We are saying the judgment he made on strat was the correct call.

Sylvanas committed genocide to strengthen her master.

No good came from it. War instantly came from that act.

As to where strat cleansing had the effect of no plague while he was gone in Northrend.

The only choice he made poorly before going to northrend was going to Northrend. When he got there he made a lot of horrible choices.

He wasn’t making choices at this point. Ner’zhul was stringing him along.

#ArthasDidNothingWrong.

No he was not corrupted when he decided to go to Northrend. That was his choice and where it all went down hill.

He made the choice to higher the mercs to burn his ships to have his men murder the mercs. But he became corrupted either the second he saw Frostmourne or the second he touched it.

You can be “rescued” out of the maw?

Aww, I was hoping it was more like Wraith: The Oblivion’s Nihils, basically an underworld black hole that had literally no escape. I was really hoping slyvanus would end up somewhere like that. Oblivion would suit her story arc, she desperately wants to die, but the only way to do so would be to stop existing at all.

After Garrosh, and Sylvanas, I’m too tired out for the Arthas stans.

He likely should have gotten the sorting hat, but he doesn’t deserve the excuses for his mistakes.

Yet they all died anyway. I would say this would have been a better result than what did end up happening though.

With or without frostmourne, arthas commited treason against their soilders and tje mercenaries he contracted necause he had a tamper tntrum.

That alone and stratholme was enough for the maw

After playing the Beta either Sylvanas is ignorant or just doesn’t care that the power that destroyed Silvermoon she now serves.

She hated Arthas to the point she became like him. I wonder if something happened to her soul when she was raised from the dead?

In Legion why would she risk her life on the broken shore anyway? Hopefully all of this will make more sense.

I hope she is being controlled somehow since her soul was consumed by Frostmourne then Arthas made her a Banshee.

ya know what, I’ma say it, when Arthus got , like, brain controlled or w/e… he didn’t try hard enough to do the right thing. he deserves eternal damnation
