Using trial characters to farm withered training for hidden appearances?

UPDATE: You must have the artifact weapon unlocked first. Once you have the artifact weapon your trial character throwaway alts CAN unlock hidden appearances, which means you CAN get the Blood DK, Prot Paladin, and WW monk hidden appearances using trial characters.

I’ve been trying to get The Stormfist memewalker monk hidden appearance and I was not lucky on the 3 120 monks I already have.

Can a fresh 110 trial character find hidden artifact appearances before they even unlock the artifact weapon itself?

I’ve already been doing this for like a day casually. Getting the artifact weapon first really sucks because there are 2 boring rp filled scenarios I have to sit through which burns up about 30-40 minutes and makes me procrastinate.

When I just go straight to suramar on the fresh 110 and literally skip anything else, I can get to the withered training scenario in about 30-45 minutes and by the time I’m done both the withered training scenarios it’s been a total of about 60 minutes maybe and I’ve got 1300-1500 gold that I mail to my main and then I delete the trial character and start over.

I don’t see how anything I’m doing is an exploit because I’m not making a lot of gold and I’m not using any items that I should’t have access to and I’m not doing anything but suramar intro quests and withered training.

Based on everything I’ve been able to find I’ve learned this:

The hidden artifact appearances only seem to drop from the largest chest you can get in the withered training scenario, and that only spawns if you have at least a score of 200. You can get the fox mount invitation from any size chest so you can literally just start and immediately end the training to get the invitation, but I have yet to see a single comment online of someone finding a hidden artifact appearance with out getting at least 200 score in the training scenario.

The 3 sized chests all have the same name but are small, medium, and large sized. You need the large size so at least a score of 200. Any score above 200 only seems to reward more rep tokens, up to a max score of 450 for 4 rep tokens.

The chest seems to drop 1 random item from a loot table of about 140 things, of those 140 things I don’t know exactly how many can drop for a monk but items that drop for every class seem to have a 3% drop chance listed and because the stormfist is listed as a 0.3% drop chance, I’m going to guess it’s just saying that because it’s using data from all 12 classes looting the same chest that spawns at the end of the scenario. If you only looked at the monk data, it would probably be more like 3% than 0.3% because there wouldn’t be 11 other classes diluting the drop chance rates.

THE BIG QUESTION IS:

Can you actually find a hidden artifact appearance on a fresh character that hasn’t actually gotten the artifact weapon in question yet? I know they removed artifact knowledge research so all those requirements are gone, I just want to know the fundamental question of whether you need to have already unlocked that artifact yet on that specific character.

Sounds logical that it won’t appear/drop if you don’t have the artifact already

Uhh even if it does drop, you need the relevant artifact actually equipped to learn the hidden appearance once you get the item.

You can not enter it as it counts as instanced content.

that’s not a big deal I can get that in 30 minutes and there is a 3 hour limit on trial characters so I would have more than enough time to get the weapon and learn the hidden appearance if I had to have the artifact equipped before my 3 hours ran up and my trial character got locked out.

I’ve been entering the withered training and doing this over and over again for over a day now I said this already. It’s not a raid lockout it’s a quest instance and therefore you are allowed to do this on trial characters as it’s a part of the suramar questline and it’s considered a quest and then repeatable world quest, which I said I have already been doing now this weekend.

It’s actually a good idea, but i had no idea that “Withered Training” quest could be done with only that little of time entering Suramar, and plus i thought it was reputation-based too

I’m not a monk expert but as I said I have 3 120 monks, I have played BM and WW enough to be very comfortable with them, and I even soloed Dro in the withered training as a WW 110 fresh character which I felt impressed by I dunno lol. He usually stomps my butt easily but I went full try-hard on him and I actually handled him quite easily when I went all out, felt really good not gonna lie after having him kill me like 4 times in a row.

I also only had the mana-rager and 1 normal withered so I didn’t even have an army to dps him down it was basically just me beating him using only mechanical skill.

But ya when you know exactly where to go and what quests to do and what order to do them in you can get to the withered training in about 30 minutes. You get the first training session free, and then 1 more training session you pay for, then you can sell all the stuff on the trial character, mail the gold, delete it and start over.

I just really want to know if the hidden appearance has a chance of DROPPING if I haven’t gotten the weapon yet, because I can just easily go get the weapon, equip it, and learn the appearance if it DOES drop, I just don’t want to get the damn artifact weapon every single time

I got one at 100 that i haven’t played in a while and i ran tons of Mythics n got him very geared in Warlords, before Mythic+, had to grind out the dungeons and get lucky with warforged gear

How is BM edit: (Brewmaster) nowdays? That’s the only spec i played him as. Currently i’m leveling an Undead Monk and he’s at 40. Still getting back in rhythm w/ BM though, Any recommendations for when to use my Elixirs fighting mobs? From what I read, they said try to keep the Steelskin brew up at all times. ty

BM has actually been in a good spot for pretty much all of BfA.

I personally love the BfA version of Survival hunter, I know a lot of people dont, but I really really like the grenade talent build survival hunter.

Suramar is a level 110 zone right now until we get the level squish when Shadowlands arrives, but you can handle the zone and withered training pretty easily on a 110 fresh trial character wearing only your start gear. You could go BM monk too to be safer but I don’t need saftey I need speed and efficiency lol.|

Brewmaster has consistently been the best raiding tank in BfA since they nerfed Blood DK’s a long time agao now. They are getting nerfed in 8.3 soon but it’s not a big nerf it’s more of a justified small nerf that is still going to keep them up there as a top tier tank.

I love the special delivery talent that throws barrels in the air that do aoe damage when they land every time you drink a brew, very very fun playstyle if you use that talent and it’s a perfect thematic fit for the spec.

They’re also the ones I see topping the mythic plus charts, too. That stagger appears to be such a solid mechanic especially when combined with resto druid’s hoTs

warriors have dominated mythic+ all expansion because they just do so much more damage than any other tank and they’r block is just so strong for mythic+ which is up to 80% phsyical damage, which is massively reduced by the blocking warriors do, BfA also introduced blocking ranged attacked too so another huge buff for warrior tanks.

They got a big damage nerf which surprised nobody so other tank specs are doing comparable damage now but warriors are still the stongest tank for mythic+ purely because of their block value and their spell reflection ability.

I think you might have to do some questing for withered training to pop. I know you have to open up Shalamar in order to be able to turn in quests, as Thalyssra will not be there until you let her in and do the intro questline.

Of course, after I got exalted on my first character and started with rep tokens on my army of alts, I swore off withered training forever.

Warriors are still good but the top tanks are brews, and 12 of the top 20 in mythic plus (linked) are Brew.

Might have replied to wrong target, but nonetheless thanks for the insight, Luc

You turn on war mode and take reverse harm turbo fists and pressure points then you fly to the suramar quest hub and if you are a fresh boosted character Thalyssra is just standing there jonesin out so you give her a fix (boosted characters even specifically come with 100 ancient mana already so they can immediately feed Thalyssra and Oculeth which is necessary to do the Surama intro questline we are doing right now).

She gets a fix, gives you a quest, you accept, 2 more quests pop up.

Go get Oculeth first. Go back. Unlock the teleporter. Go back inside with the new teleporter and get the new quest to go explore north.

Go north, get the other ally Valtrois.

Go do the Old Ally Quest now that you got at the start, and the 3 anicent mana nodes.

Once you have done the Old Ally quest and Theryn is following you and you have grabbed 3 mana nodes for the quest, use your flight whistle.

You are now back in front of the quest hub, use the teleporter up top, turn in the quests, go meet Silgryn.

Talk to Silgryn, talk again, grab a party mask, put the party mask on.

Mount up.

Talk to 8 guests on your flying mount. Hand the quest in. Stomp the kid. Hand the quest in again and copy the kids image. Go into town with your new image and make sure you have 300 ancient mana for Theryn, you can find ancient mana in the city very easily this is where all the good stuff is you don’t want that cheap stuff out there.

Talk to the dude, go back to suramar quest hub, probably with your flight whistle again.

Give theryn the mana do the clicky quest.

Go back to the city and grab 400 mana on your flying mount with your disguise.

Go back to quest hub with your hearthstone or whistle or the teleporter.

Due the quest to go to moonshade.

Get the seed.

Do the withered training. Get score over 200, end training.

Do the withered training again if the stormfist didn’t drop. Get score over 200 and end training.

Sell anything you can, mail the gold to your main, delete the trial character and repeat.

You can just further optimize that if you want and make the run faster and faster and faster if you really wanted to.

This is an awesome sequential write-up. I’m not farming the withered training (at least not yet) but thank you for taking the time to do this, Phae

lol np. go checkout an HD video of the stormfist it’s the best Legion artifact appearance by far I think for Windwalker.

Same with the demonology warlock hidden appearance. I think it’s also the best by far and it wasn’t mage tower because it just made sense to make it an argus zone farm.

It is a good looking mog

it looks way cooler than that when you see an HD video with ultra settings on the graphics.

The stone parts all open up and you see a glowing ball of energy in the middle it looks sick.

One of the coolest artifact appearances of Legion by far and kind of a hidden gem because this was by far one of the worst grinds of Legion with many people spending month after month doing withered training for hours and hours and hours getting as high as score as they could because nobody really knows how hidden artifact weapons really work theres still a lot of mysteries we never solves in Legion and now BfA.

I was able to get the hidden prot paladin artifact appearance when I unlocked the holy hidden. I don’t have the base skin for prot (or ret), But are the other specs easier “grinds?” Or are you wanting that base skin?
