I’m looking at possibly using polymorph to interrupt the Bone Magus’ Bone Spear cast. It’s a 3 second cast, so I think I can get it off reliably. But the risk would be that it heals the Bone Magus in the time before it gets hit again. I think the critical question would be if the poly is broken within a second, does it heal much?
Of course, the issue is that frost has no stun… but aside from that…
My thinking is that I’ve been looking over logs for runs that went particularly smoothly, and I found in a really nice TOP14 I was in, that 2 out of 4 of these abilities were interrupted. I play with people who think the platforms are some of the most frustrating stuff in all of the M+ dungeons. I’m thinking it’s because they are technical, with a nasty knock-off that you have to be careful of… if I can help get the big damage stuff shut down, then we can focus on not getting knocked off, and we’ll be good.
Pretty sure he is undead and we cannot poly scary ghosts and stuff? If your looking for out of the box ideas you can use an eng belt to knock him away.
Arghh… of course. Last time I trust MDT when it shows a mob is affected by polymorph. I should have used a different example.
Clearly I’ll have to try to explain to my team to stun Bone Spear if they can. I mean, a single hit to our arms Warrior did 31k. It was interrupted once in the log I was examining using pummel - so, maybe, although it’s physical, a mage can interrupt it? The annoying thing is that it’s a pretty rare cast, so maybe people don’t realize it was a single ability that messed up the party.
Side note: it looks like it’s 10%/s, so on a mythic +15, most mobs I can polymorph will gain about 15-25k health if I hit Ice Lance immediately after poly. If someone else hits them, then it’ll break faster. The auto-cast feature will not work chaining Ice Lance to Polymorph… so I have to spam it at the end of the cast. Otherwise, I think it would break faster.
Bone spear is a priority interrupt and it can be interrupted with any normal interrupt, including mage’s counterspell. You can also hard CC, but a kick is probably the most effective way.
You cant on that mob as has been pointed out, but using sheep to interupt is perfectly fine in a lot of situations. The heal isnt the issue at all. The question is about the dps you give up by casting it.
About the only mob I poly (if I really have to) to interrupt is the little piece of ^$@$ bird that calls the giant mama bird in DOS. Usually I db that when I can as my stun/blind but if DB isn’t up poly can save the pull.
It is cast by Bone Magus, it is a normal interruptible cast, kickable with counterspell, kick, pummel, wind shear, etc.
It is not a hard-interrupt-only cast that would require a stun.
Here at 17:57 you can watch this team restart the platforms, and the cast bar is yellow (would be red if required hard cc). https://youtu.be/FtvoXgV9MUo?t=1077
The mage uses counterspell to interrupt the second Magus as it is casting Bone Spear.
At 24:16 in that video, the death knight goes from 31k to 0 because they had no remaining interrupt for Bone Spear. Now I’m wondering how to figure out who’s going to get it fast enough to defensive c/d it, just in case. Kinda funny though.
Thanks for the note on invisibility - I don’t use it as a defensive, but I should for certain situations. I’ll try to weave it into my toolkit.
Well for starters that’s a completely optional platform (the one at 24:16). Alternatively you can deal with the double-tornado platform and have less interrupts to worry about.
They only had no remaining interrupt because they were repeatedly kicking Grave Spike which is a total waste. They mistakenly kicked at least 3 Grave Spikes on the platform where the DK dies, it’s hard to see because his interrupt tracker is behind his webcam box.
For the entire platform run, the only thing that ever needs to be kicked is Bone Spear. Only use extra kicks if you have plenty left over for non-priority kicks.
