I don’t like it when I’m the only hero class in the mythic group. I gotta summon my hunter during the boss fight and dismiss him real quick. Do you guys keep the pet out throughout the fight then dismiss? Or do you dismiss right after popping hero?
generally just keep it out and turn taunt off.
Only single target i believe its approximately the same dps anyway. You do suffer on multi target fights though
MM used to be able to dismiss their pet, and would have a option to use all of their pet abilities. Was that tied to Lone Wolf?
Yes. It was how the WoD version of Lone Wolf worked.
That’s partially because Blizzard massively overtuned Lone Wolf so that it was a huge DPS loss to run around with pets — but the WoD Lone Wolf (which was a talent) literally prevented you from being able to summon your pets at all.
So the Lone Wolf hunters were really hurting from the loss in pet utility, especially the buffs provided by pets (this was prior to the Legion pruning which removed all the pet buffs).
The Lone Wolf hunter literally could choose between all the possible pet buffs — you could just toggle one at a time, though.
But then Blizzard went and removed all the pet buffs on top of redesigning Lone Wolf (twice) since WoD.
I hate Lone Wolf so much, man. But the BFA/SL version is probably the best tuned, in my opinion.
Thanks for the clarification. Hunters have had so many redesigns it hard to remember what they did and when.
For me (a somewhat inexperienced MM Hunter), I’ve found that on single target fights, I’m only losing out on about 3% DPS by losing out on Lone Wolfs damage buff. So I just keep him out for the entire fight. Outside of needing Lust though, he stays on the sidelines like a good little pet
Little bit more work involved, but if you don’t want to lose your Lone Wolf buff do the following
- Summon Pet
- Lust (not hero Lul)
- Abandon Pet

‘scuse you
It’s Primal Rage, thank you very much.
The only problem I have with that is having to have a stable full of throwaway pets and a portable stable. That’s a lot of work. Even on the shortest of instances, like MoTS with three bosses, a one shot clear will cost you three pets. I’d rather just take the DPS loss, personally. But usually, there’s another Hunter, Mage, or Shaman in the group, or at the very least someone with drums.
You summon and dismiss pet after fight, never during fight
Hints why I said “little bit more work involved”
