Use your Weather!

Ok you guys have a random world quest generator. Now merge that with dangerous weather effects. Have circles on the map that have the following randomly:

Swarms of Bugs
Lava rain
Tornado
Hurricane
Blizzards
Bats
Blood Storm
the lingering fart from Gary in accounting.
and so on and so forth.

Get creative with it! The point is that it creates a “no-fly/ annoying to fly in” zone over specific areas. It does not take away flying. However, it keeps you from getting into and out of high-level questing spots with too much ease. The flying will get you from point to point but it would no longer allow you to drop in on-top of the named monster and fly out.

This would encourage players to become more engaged and fight in and out of the situation in order to achieve quest goals.

By using weather, you create a story driven device that has all the positive effects of no flying and without taking flying away and ticking off your players.

Again, you use the world quest code, enlarge the circle a bit. Paste in some weather effects (you already have a trinket that does it). Then set it forth all across WoW to do your evil dirty work for you. It’s fun, it makes sense, it brings players into the story a bit and it extends content without imposing flat bans on things.

Please use your weather!

Hrrrm. So long as it doesn’t just become like a bunch of stupid m+ affixes thrown at the portion of the playerbase that avoids m+ specifically for that reason, then ok.

It should be mostly stuff that makes it annoying to fly in. On the ground it shouldn’t bother you too much. Solo questing in it should be fine, also you have no timer to drive you and your party into madness.

Although that lingering fart make have some slow ticking dot damage and decrease your armor points.

But the “Ion storm” will hurl nothing but pure garbage at you :stuck_out_tongue:

This sounds a lot like taking away the benefits of earning flight. If you want to immerse yourself, just use a ground mount. I’ve already been through the terrain and the story. I’ve done all the quests. This is a big “no thanks.”

I am confused. I hope rightfully so.

The flying will still be there, you will still be able to get past all the terrain. You just shouldn’t be able to jump directly into the center of the battle get what you want and fly out.

That right there is the primary argument vs flying.

The way I think is like this:

Find creative ways to address the problems on both sides rather then just telling one side no.

Yeah, let’s add even more annoying, tedious features to this game so even more people quit.

ff14 has similar weather patterns, people haven’t quit that game. in-fact you can’t even buy it right now.

I…I think I’ll just stay inside. That seems better than that lunacy you call weather.

But that’s why people love flying

NOOOO… the Lingering fart will get you… run outside!!

Ask yourself, would you rather deal with interesting weather or blizzard just flat out making the zone no-flying ever like the maw.

Weather was a thing in the pre-patch to SL, whatever that little mini patch was called where you’d go to Northrend and hunt the rares that spawned in a cycle for a transmog or the fancy bag.

And nobody cared.

The list of things you could do with weather are endless, but I think it’s senseless if you also don’t offer certain classes/specs weather immunity or the ability to exploit certain weathers for their benefit. Eg: Frost mage Blizzard should do more damage in an actual blizzard, etc. Shamans should be able to manipulate weather too.

But then you’re creeping more into competitive Pokemon territory where there are weather teams, setters, immunities, moves, etc. and less into MMO space. If anything it just becomes an annoyance for an MMO; most people just want awesome scenery and good content instead of elements like weather. It further loses appeal when you consider how it would make balancing even more of an issue.

You could give the weather a level. Once you go past specific char levels the weather no longer affects you.

Listen, I am using weather as a device.

Blizzard seems intent on making all end of level place “no fly”.

This offers them a solution by which we can HAVE FLYING and they can have the effects they are looking for with “no Flight”. They are looking to eliminate the drop in/ fly out and have you spend more time. This gives them that while also giving us FLYING.

again:

Like the Kyrian hopping daily that’s still bugged?

I know, but it is a MUCH better game. WoW can’t afford to be tedious anymore.

Who died and put your incharge of telling us what to do? Did I miss a memo?

Also who put you incharge of deciding how to do no-fly zones? Lol?

Blizz has done no-fly zones before with NPCs that shoot you out of the sky and ground you, which

a. Gets the job done
b. Is less cumbersome to factor in vs weather and the interactions it has with classes.

Nobody cares about you wanting to use weather vs NPCs that ground you. Cheers.

I’d like flying in all zones with interesting weather as long as the weather doesn’t have any actual effects on map traversal.

I’m defending my idea. If you don’t like it that’s fine. Trying to find a solution to a problem is not a crime. I’m not in charge of anyone here. Try calming down…BTW that is only a suggestion not an order.

Basic rain cripples my FPS. You want Blizzard to do more advanced weather? I have a new PC.

He can’t hold these things in forever!
