Use of Auction House

I wish to list an item on the auction house and I noted that under the item, there is a field called “Stack Size” and “Number of Stacks”. How does it work? Suppose I have a stack of 5 potions and wish to auction each one at 1 gold each. What do I input in that 2 fields. I was afraid that I will mistakenly auction all the 5 potions for 1 gold instead of going for 1 gold for each of the potions. Please advice, thanks.

Stack size refers to the number of item in a stack that you wish to sell and the number of stacks is the number of stacks you wish to sell based on your stack size. If you want to 5 potions at 1 gold a piece, you could either sell 1 individual potion (1 stack size with the number of stacks at 5), or sell all 5 potion ( 5 stack size with the number of stacks at 1).

You may want to look into getting an addon for the auction house. It can make it a lot easier to see what you are doing when selling. Auctionator is probably the simplest one to use, and when you’re setting your price it will let you see both the single item and stack price, making it easier to not make mistakes. Auctioneer and Trade Skill Master are two more advanced options. If you’re just planning to sell stuff you’ve found and not play the auction house by flipping stuff, they’re probably both overkill for your needs.

if you have 5 potions you want to sell individually (split them so there are 5 separate items in your bag), I would just list one potion at a time. after you set the price and start the first auction for 1 potion, it will automatically populate with the same prices when you right click to set up the next 1 potion auction, etc. so it will be two clicks to start the next auction with no typing.

I sort by price low to high to see listed items so i can determine my price. when you sell a stack of items all at once, lets say 10 potions stacked in one listing. make sure you enter the price as 10 gold not 1 gold, cause your selling the entire stack of 10 to one person.

in regards to pricing, some items you list will cost relatively higher ratio to list (usually gear), and you lose the listing cost money if it doesn’t sell. for those items, i would list the price lower so you have a better chance to sell it.
