Hey there! As many, I’m super hyped for Classic coming next summer, but there’s something bugging me right now and hopefully I can get some answers here.
I live in eastern Canada and my work schedule is evenings and nights. That means I exclusively play during US daytime. I plan to find myself a raiding guild for Classic, but I’m worried that I may not find anyone raiding weekly at these times.
A solution would be to roll on a European server, as their evenings would be my early afternoons (when I play). With the Holyday Sale going on right now, I don’t mind buying a new account. I’m worried about latency though, being in North America. Do I have other options to be able to play and raid at the same time as most people?
I’d imagine there will be some 2nd and 3rd shift guilds with odd raiding times. Just keep your eyes out. Hopefully we’ll get some guild recruitment forums soon and you’ll be able to get some help there.
As the guy above me said I forsee guilds in different time ranges this time around oppose to back In vanilla days but as he said once we get closer more guilds will be open and recruiting and I am sure you will find one to fit your needs.
Nobody can provide you with the answers because nobody knows what classic’s population will look like. However, MMO’s tend to be easier to find activity at all times just because there’s many people from many regions who’ll be playing at certain times. I’d be surprised if you couldn’t find a group even during slow hours. If a game has a robust population the slowdown shouldn’t put a stop to all activities being done or if it’s very high you won’t even notice much of a slowdown at all. I think even though classic will have a lower population than modern, you should be fine finding people to play with…that also depends on realm population luck as well which no matter the time frame you’re playing in affects everyone. When classic’s population starts fading then yea you may have a somewhat difficult time, but that won’t be for a while.
Until we know which datacenter(s) that US Classic will be hosted from, this question can’t be answered. It might be that all US Calssic servers will be on the LA datacenter, screwing everyone in the eastern and central (not to mention Atlantic) time. If that happens, then you’ll likely be better off going with a server hosted in Western Europe. The most hardcore vanilla server raiders are concentrated in Europe anyway, if that figures into your decision.
Is there any lag when playing overseas? That would be my main concern, besides just playing with friends. Also, I’ve actually meet ppl from WoW. Wouldn’t have happened if I was on an EU server.
Another possibility is find an oceanic raid guild as their timezone is directly inverted from US (AM becomes PM and vice-versa). The tricky part is finding these non-peak hour raid guilds as they tend to cluster into a few servers and if they are not on your server, you might reroll or transfer over.
