US Price Increase Incoming

If they’re nickel and diming over exchange rates now they’re coming for US subs too. I think if the price goes up… and the quality doesn’t come with it (I’m personally tired of mobile engagement mechanics)… the price hike is going to send a bunch of folks scattering.

they don’t have12m subs anymore right now and are making more money than they ever were in wrath. record numbers. do you think the money just appeared out of the air? do you think they make most of their money from subs? lol?

Exactly. I will resub to Swtor before paying any more for this game.

I think you’re spreading misinformation. The sub fee for Canada wasn’t increased. It was the purchase of game time, which is separate. In the store you can purchase a sub, or you can purchase raw time. Raw time is increased, not the sub fee.

I feel like where we’re at is a really good place sub price wise. I don’t know what I would do if they raised it. That would depend on how much they raise it by I guess.

US may see the same thing as in Canada with prepaid game time going up.

I think Blizzard is trying to increase specifically subscriptions for 2021. What’s an easy way to do that? Slowly phase out prepaid time. They already have incentives for 6 month subs getting goodies + slight discounts.

I think they want to start releasing sub numbers again (combined with Classic) and are trying to increase subs over prepaid players.

I left WOW for five years and only came back because the hubby started playing again. I thought the storyline for SL was interesting so I said "WTH? I’m not playing SWtOR right now because I am waiting for their next major expansion release and I was burned out on ESO (though I still play a little). WOW right now is a change of scenery that was convenient because the hubby started playing again. But neither of us are THAT enamoured with WOW that we would pay more than what we are already paying.

I honestly don’t believe you.

Why bother haunting the forums of a Game that you are so uninvested in that $5 more per month has you thinking of running for the hills and playing a single player game?

ESOs gearing and questing is cool but their classes and pve dynamics are hot trash.

Haven’t played Skyrim or the Star Wars game so whatevs have fun.

I’d hardly consider watching movies on any streaming service to be the equivalent in entertainment value to an MMORPG, but it sounds like you don’t really care for those anyway.

That’s perfectly fine. But it’s really only an hour of your life (assuming you make $20/hr) per month to pay for a hobby.

One of my hobbies is restoring old Holdens and I would be doing backflips if it only cost 20 bucks a month.

Not defending Blizz for the price increase (in the middle of global pandemic for crying out loud) I’m just pointing out facts.

Adjusting for the exchange rate is not nickel and diming. It’s basic echonomics.

Not all currencies have the same value, and they don’t all stay in place relative to each other. Adjusting the price based on changes in exchange rates is just making sure you’re still getting the same amount you were before.

that’s your choice. neither of those games has 16 years of content to explore with new content still being released. and from what i understand the cash shops on both of those games are more intense than wows. but don’t play wow. that’s fine. imagine crying over a slight price increase on a sub you’ve not seen a dime increase on in literally 16 years though.

Your belief if not a prerequisite for something to be true.

Besides, I happen to enjoy arguing with people online.

The exchange rates will increase but never decrease. It isn’t necessarily related as much as it’s used as a scapegoat.

Canadians are looking to pay $3 extra CAD/month at some point soon. We’re already paying for the exchange rate, so that’s $3 extra.

People have said it was Canadian taxes but I can’t find any proof.

They will face a rebellion and massive unsubs.

crying on the forums is what most of them spend their sub time on. maybe that isn’t worth it to them, but thank george for the rest of us.

The subscription cost isn’t changing, just the cost to buy gametime on it’s own.

That would have to be taxes, because otherwise they’d just increase both prices.

Lol, says the guy trolling on an alt.

Sure it is. And we’re playing WoW that is hosted by a small indie game studio and we should be happy to give 'em some extra bucks.

This is nickel and diming. A subscription fee is (almost) guaranteed income. I think if they keep it up there’s going to be more subs leaving and more customer costs increasing, all while keeping their operating expenses on the down low. Oh wait, they’re a company and they need to make money… my bad of not learning my echo comics.

Seriously, I’d have no problem paying more for my subs (plural) if they would actually use that money to pay for their talent - with competitive wages - and managed to retain quality folks on their dev team. Instead I expect we’ll see another round of layoffs and “restructuring” so Bobby gets his big payoff.

I really don’t know. It could be that they want to keep people subscribed, as game time isn’t as easy to track as a metric. Who knows. What I do know is that there isn’t an explanation for it yet.
