UPS Advice

I recently got Xfinity Triple-Play and dang if that modem isn't THE most touchiest piece of electronics I've seen. The smallest brownout that won't kick our hungry PCs offline causes the modem to reboot itself, easily.

Sadly, the power company around here is unreliable at times, and I am getting sick of waiting 5-10 minutes every time the lights go out for a split second, or even just a flicker is enough to cause it.

So I was thinking of putting a UPS on just the modem. Our PCs can be rebooted in a couple minutes, but it sucks waiting on the modem to take absolutely forever to reboot and reconnect.

However, I know from past experience, I used to buy these UPS units before, and one thing that really annoys me is the constant beeping anytime the power goes out, it has to beep every 30 seconds until power comes back on. I really don't need that happening in the middle of the night, or every single time the power goes out, so I'd like one that you can permanently mute (at least the On Battery and Low Battery alarms, I really don't need the thing telling me the power is out, I KNOW the power is out kthx).

I'm hoping that such a unit (even if it's a small one that only lasts 5-10min), but I'm hoping the price would be reasonable. I don't need no $300+ brick just for a modem, lol.

Any advice?
APC. Look up the model that you are considering and verify if the alarm can be turned off. However, don't be upset if you are out, and the rest of the household lets the battery drain because they didn't remember to check it when there is an outage.

Also look for line conditioning. It's brown-outs (sags) that really impact equipment over time.

Can't go wrong with APC, and their batteries last a long time.

Edited to add: https://tinyurl.com/yaa4h4dy - that's an amazon link to an updated version of what I have. They are calling line conditioning AVR now.
I had an APC like....5 years ago... and couldn't find any info about if the alarms can be disabled, turned out it couldn't, AND the battery went bad on me within 6 months, lol. So I've been kinda.....wary about trying another.

But... maybe years later they've gotten better at making them more reliable.
I have a 1500 VA UPS on my PC and monitors and a 1000 VA UPS on my Modem and Router.

We had a power outage last week that lasted almost 20 minutes and I never had to shut down although I was monitoring the larger UPS closely and I shut off my 2nd monitor when power went out.

The 1500 VA UPS is on Amazon right now for under $150 and if your modem and router are close enough to your PC, there's no reason you can't plug everything in there. My layout prevented that.

Frankly, I've never heard it beep unless I was at the computer, the computer was on and drawing power, and the power went out and I sleep right next to it.

I have to believe that there were power outages somewhere in there.
Sadly, my modem is in the other room right next to a PC that I rarely use, so... getting a 1500VA is kinda overkill lol. I mean sure I could put that PC on it too but I rarely even use it, lol.

But it's nice to hear that they've seemingly done away with the alarms that are louder than gunshots.
