Upgrading tips?

With 3 or 4 different tiers of gear and all these currencies and crafted gear etc, I’m feeling a little overwhelmed. Would anyone mind laying out an upgrade plan? Like, I want to upgrade my weapon, but it’s not the bis weapon and also came from like a +5.

I’m just not sure where to start and was hoping someone could give me some guidelines on what pieces I can start upgrading. Thanks

Crests are used to upgrade slots, not items. Once you have an item at X ilvl, it will never cost crests to upgrade another item in that slot to the same ilvl.

Whelp crests upgrade things until their ilvl reaches 411, drake to 424, wyrm to 437, and aspect to 441.

The only items that can be upgraded to 441 drop from heroic raids and 17+ keys. As well as the great vault. These are called hero items.

Items considered champion can be upgraded to 8/8, which is 437 ilvl and come from normal raids, lower keys, and the world boss.

Technically it is better to try and get the highest ilvl item possible in each slot before you start investing crests. However even if you don’t do this, you’ll have access to enough resources to get every item to 441 or higher by week 5.

Addendum: Crafting.

Crafted items are 424, 437, and 447. The base is 424 and the other two ilvls require an enchanted crest. These are made by enchanters using 4 wyrm or aspect crests and some other mats. NEVER MAKE ENCHANTED WYRM CRESTS because you will need wyrm crests for other things. Wait until you have aspects crests to use to get 447 items on any slot you want with perfect stats.

Thank you for all the info. If I read this correctly, I should wait until I have at least all champion pieces in every slot before I start considering upgrading anything and in the meantime, keep saving my currencies?

i upgraded my tier because i know i’ll wear it for a while. not trying to minmax, just 4/5 upgraded tier feels good investment to me.

if you get a major trinket, i’d ride that up to 4/5 or 5/5.

Yea good call on the trinks

You don’t need to be that frugal. Wyrm crests are where you’ll bottle neck if anywhere. Drake and whelp crests were available one week sooner, so they cap 10 higher.

No need whatsoever. Once you get an item below or at the ilvl you upgraded to, it won’t cost crests to upgrade anyway.
