so, i have enough soul ashes after doing the 2 6 layers, my question is, do i have to upgrade a legendary rank by rank or i could go directly and craft a r4 on runecarver
You can go to rank 4 directly. You just need the rank 4 piece of gear and the difference of soul ahs from rank 4 and 1, I think it is 3900 soul ash.

do you need higher ilvl base item to upgrade from already existing 190? Or it’s only for new legendaries?

You have to have the higher “base” item. The Soul Ash cost total is the same regardless of if you start out at rank 4 or upgrade step by step but upgrading could be more expensive gold-wise since you have to keep buying new base materials.

So…3900 soul ash. When you upgrade you pay the difference from the one that you have and the one that you’ll get
this is annoying, i don’t want to buy tokens or farm gold all day. Tying progression to gold will just encourange rmt

at least it means that if you have done at least all torghast layers and bolvar quests including this week, r3 legendaries can be crafted

No, you can’t…you need 1950 soul ash to upgrade from rank 1 to 3, you’ll end this week with something around 1300.
this legendary upgrade thing is a huge goldsink so far.
(well not really since it goes in someone’s pocket)
that legendary’s gonna end up costing more than a longboi at this rate 
hope prices settle… i dont see less fortunate ppl buying token after token (or actually farming gold) just to keep their leggo up to date heh
If you buy it directly it just all transfers but there’s some that’s “lost” from the AH cut when people buy the items or the mats to make the items off the AH.
i have currently 1990 ashes on my shaman and i wasn’t able to get in any from the companion table
Is there another quest from bolvar this week? Cause I did one that rewarded me only 50 soul ashes. I have, I think, 800 now, but haven’t done the other corridor yet.
there is a quest to save jaina from tor’ghast, after finishing my corridor run, i did that one and it was just like a ride in the park
