This isn’t even me just complaining. It is actually pointless to upgrade PvP gear, and the problem is that this isn’t made clear at all. The item level in PvP doesn’t change one bit, so it’s a waste of materials to even bother with it. If I upgrade the item to 8/8, it still only goes to 626/636/639 and only the base ilevel outsid of PvP changes. But with much better PvE gear available, it’s a waste of mats to throw them at PvP gear.
They really need to do something with this system, because it’s dishonestly eating mats with no real explanation as to how you’re getting any benefit. I had to learn this the hard way. I’m trying to save others from doing the same, but it’s probably too late.

The fact the pvp item level doesn’t change when you upgrade it is not clear?

Showing you a preview of what gear you’re getting when you upgrade isn’t enough for you to know what’s going to happen when you upgrade?

Isn’t that the point though?
If you want to soley pvp this is how you gear.
I do think the whole gearing system is annoying with so many currencies though.

SOME people just pvp, thats it. hard to believe but true. So glad gear and warmongers gear is upgraded. even greens ones at times for the pve. Crafted 639 is even made at low levels as long as it 639 when it counts

I’m referring to the overall system. There’s no benefit to upgrading the pvp gear at all. So why even have it as an option? It’d be like having the option to upgrade cosmetic gear.
It’s not clearly communicated when you upgrade that nothing functionally changes with the item. The base ilevel goes up, but if it’s flipping when you get into PvP anyway, then there’s no point in upgrading it. It’s a really unintuitive system.

There is a benefit. Any time you are not in PvP, the ilvl of the gear is relevant.
The fact that the pvp ilvl is the only number that doesn’t get changed clearly communicates that the pvp ilvl doesn’t go up.

I just dump my excess valorstones there, helps a bit when I do PVE content in between sessions

The boost with PvP gear only occurs in instanced content…so there is value in upgrading gear for War Mode if you engage in that.
Also …at the beginning of raid prog I made it a point to use my catalyst charges on Conquest gear to complete my tier set. While I eventually replaced those pieces in PvE…there was still some value in upgrading that gear while I needed it.
Not nearly as high as PvE will though. For the same amount of mats it takes to get a PvP item 8/8 with a base ilevel of 619, you could get a PvE piece almost to 640, which is about what the pvp boost goes to. So there’s really no point in upgrading it tbh. Just a waste of mats imo. I think it’s a badly conceived system that needs to be reworked.

The tooltip on the PvP ilevel don’t go up when you go to upgrade the piece.

Uhh, no. You’re 90 gilded crests short for that. And if you choose to upgrade your pvp items, you don’t need crests to upgrade the pve items to that level.
