Upgrading my computer!

I was wondering if someone could help. Im looking onto upgrading my gaming PC. I built it 7 years ago alongside a friend of mine. And now that im looking into things im getting myself confused. Id like to upgrade my video card (and anything if it needed) and was wondering what options I have, this is my current build:

OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit (run on a SSHD)

Processor: Intel QuadCore i7-3770 CPU @ 3.40Ghz

Memory: 16G RAM

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 560

Power Supply: 750W

Let me know what your suggestions are for gaming, Im not sure about the rest? If you need more info pls ask. Keeping in mind im not made of money. Lol

Depends on your budget…

Im looking for something mid line

rtx 3080 ,

32GB ram

850W power supply

SSD for games

So like… < $1500 ?

Sure, let me know what you suggest?

You’re probably going to want to replace everything except maybe your drive (and that too if it’s not a SSD) and your case.

Your CPU is 8 generations old so you’ll want to replace that. In order to be able to use any CPU that’s relatively new, you’ll need a new motherboard too. With the new motherboard, you’ll likely need new RAM (and will definitely want it for better speeds).

Ok, thats what I was wondering. So I’m probably better off starting from scratch. Silly question, how do I know if everything will be compatible? Or is it pretty straight forward these days? Its been a while for me

You need to give a price range first if you want any help.

$300-400? $800-$1000?

It makes a big difference.

Videocard and SSD would be good upgrades.
Otherwise prebuilt? Should be one of the easier ways to get the latest cpu and gpu at the same time.

If you’re not buying a pre built you can use this website to figure out what you like and can afford

$800-1000… or would i be better off getting a pre-built rather than replacing everything?

that’s a good prebuild

How I do builds is I start with a CPU. Once I find one I like, I find a motherboard that’s the correct socket for it. From there, I just check everything against the motherboard’s specs.

Mind going to https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Software and uploading a benchmark? Will give folks a complete picture of your existing system and we can see if it’s a good idea to salvage parts or just go for a complete rebuild.

As others have said your system is pretty old but honestly CPU tech hasn’t really evolved (Your CPU is only 55% slower than a modern one) and the CPU isn’t all that critical for WoW compared to the GPU.

Snagging a GTX 3070 would give you a 980% speed-up in comparison (- quite a bit due to bottlenecks) but it’ll be the cheapest bang-for-buck if you don’t want a full re-build.

Other than 24k for a useable mac tower…

MaximunPC mag / web is a great resource for different builds and components and budgets.

Toms hardware also used to be great… but have not followed in years…

If you have no problem changing parts yourself then go that route.

With that money I would 100% change out the mobo/cpu/ram/gpu

Do not even bother going for a new AMD CPU or nvida/amd gpu because those are impossible to find.

Look into good deals for 3rd gen amd cpu’s like the r5 3600 and a nice b550 board. 16GB ddr4 ram (around 3200 speed) and maybe a rtx 2060 will last you a good amount of time.

With desktops never better off getting a pre-built.
Most pre-builts are lacking in specs to be true gaming computers, power supply are usually just barely big enough for the default hardware and graphics / processor / amount of RAM is usually low.

So much this^^^^! Made my kids build real easy, and he gets 250fps in raids with the level 10 preset, and it all only costed me 700 for a totally new machine to build him!

throw this all into trashcan? New processor will require new motherboard.
