Yea they’re probably going to far with the upgrades.
A little bit I think can be good. (And I do count enchantments and that kind of stuff)

To be honest, that’s probably the best thing to do with the state of things. Set a simple, content-based goal to work on. Don’t overdo it, and feel free to leave the game afterwards. Come back later when there’s something interesting to do.
Nevertheless, the thing WoW needs is more unique stuff to do.
Not items to acquire, nor stuff to repeat for the nth time to get more items.
Mostly a semantics argument:
Upgrading, or making stronger, the same piece of gear (bis) during a season or expansion. Season/expansion ends grind out new gear and upgrade its power of stats/spells/procs again.
I always found the argument against artifacts was more because
–everyone got the same pieces of gear–
and didn’t feel → special enough.
Personally I liked Legion artifacts both for their looks and ease of use.
Fact is, its not that deep though.
You get loot and you get crests to upgrade it, thats it.
It`s been much worse in previous xpacs where there was literally loot carousel and you had to pray to get the right titanforge or nzoth corruption.
And you want in on a little secret? You should only be worrying about Runed and Gilded Crests, everything below that is loot that will be swiftly replaced.
I’d look at it the other way. It’s kinda harsh that you need to kill mythic bosses for loot that should come out of 8’s.
I think mythic raid should be like high keys. For the clout.
all stats are “borrowed” in WoW.
Stats are on the gear not our toon.
So yea, it’s all “borrowed”.
I’d rather we have upgradeable gear than hoping for pieces to drop that had the stats we wanted that are higher ilvl.
The enchanters, JC, and blacksmiths are really the only players that want to go back to having to re-enchant, re-gem, and re-socket gear every time we get and upgrade.
rn, I can enchant, gem, socket a piece and upgrade it at the cost of crests and valorstones only.
Going back to the old way we’d get to spend 20k-50k redoing all the chants and stuff.
No thank you Scribes and JC syndicate.
I’m on to your little plan.
Other systems I thought were absurd and didn’t engage with either, at the time.
Hell, it was the N’Zoth patch in particular which broke my patience with the game. Mostly because I realized they had effectively recycled the Apexis zones from WoD, complete with their FAR TOO GRINDY “fill the bar with too many pointless activities in the area”.
I think the only improvement was they added on a reward system for players to actually chase with it… and since I didn’t care for it, the whole thing was nothing more than an obvious pile of steaming garbage.
Here’s a not-so-secret in return.
I don’t worry about it, because I don’t do ANY of it.
Why is it so hard to get across the idea that not everyone wants to be chasing gear upgrades all the time?
Seriously, my interest in gear (transmog notwithstanding) STOPS at the point of “Can I queue for LFR so that I can see the whole story?”
Hell, with the new “story mode” (not that I have TWW to test otherwise), I arguably don’t even need to concern myself about that. So it all comes down to “Hey, that gear set looks cool. How do I get it?”
I loved valor over crests. You only had to farm your gear drops ONCE then as you completed higher tiers of m+ it would allow you to upgrade it to a higher level.
This crest system means you will have to refarm the same stuff at least 2-3 times, which is tedious, monotonous, and a form of artificial game extension
If you`re not worried then why waste all this time complaining about it?
You can get what you want already, so go at it and play the game
All valor did is cause people to farm +2s over and over and didn’t work for raiding
And you’ve always had to farm things 2-3 times
You will have to re-enchant you gear, re-socket it, and upgrade it 2-3 times due to how they limit gear currently. You have heroic gear? you enchant it, but then the mythic track shows up in your vault, and boom, you have to redo that gear piece
And what is wrong with farming 2’s? Currently you are farming 7/8s just like you farmed 2’s. And nah, your upgrades were locked behind your score iirc, so you still had to push keys to be able to spend valor to upgrade
Another very “thoughtful” system just like the professions on top of the AI balancing this expansion clearly arent helping at all.
I’m not supposed to say this, but your feedback was brought up at the last board meeting before the gearing system was updated. As a personal favor to me, a representative of the WOW community at large and absolutely in the know as to what the majority of players desire, could you please provide the following feedback to Blizzard: Harlequin’s Bells must return to The Trading Post.
So you’d rather do it ever time for every piece of gear like the old system?
I have pieces rn that will not be replaced before S2.
Once I get a full set of capped hero gear I’m pmuch done.
I don’t play m+ so I won’t be getting mythic track gear unless something changes.
So many things need to be back on the Trading Post…
Because farming super easy crap isn’t fun
So you do realize you are capping yourself to a lower tier of gear. You gotta redo all your gear upgrading and refarm it if you want mythic track!
Neither is refarming the same loot, just because it isnt hero/myth track.
But that’s playing the game, we’ve always had to do that
