So I currently have an i5 Unlocked 10th gen Intel processor.
But I’m wondering if I should upgrade to an i7 or i9. I’m wondering if this is holding back my computer’s potential performance since I’ve got a 3090.
Thoughts?
Doing anything at all right now when Intel is getting ready to release a new platform would be silly especially considering it’s supposed to blow everything currently on the market out of the water.
Just know that when the new processor comes out you will need a new motherboard. Z490 and z590 are both now dead platforms.

Depends on the i5, i7 or i9. Honestly, the even if you upgrade odds are the performance isn’t going to be worth it.
Unless you’re doing Ashran or epic BGs who cares if your frames are 200fps instead of 300fps? Your monitor can’t go up that high.
I agree with you. For now the Op should sit tight. I think the OP should wait for the new Alder Lake or Zen4. They will be the biggest performance increase

You probably won’t see any difference unless you are doing other things in the background like streaming etc…
Games in general are still primarily single thread so you don’t really get much from going from a 10th gen to a 10th gen processor just in terms of gaming.
