Hey guys,
So i dont really know much about computers. So i need some advice!
Long story short. Old computer died, got a new one. But i cheaped out a tad, because i didnt have the money at the time and im slowly uprading.
I have a ryzen3 2200g cpu currently. With an ASUS Prime A320m-r2.0 motherboard. Ive done some research and i can upgrade within ryzen on that motherboard.
My question is, would it be more beneficial for me to replace the cpu or the mobo? Or both? I dont exactly have a pile of money, i live in the most expensive place to live in canada. Whistler bc. So prefferably replace just one.
I have a zotac 1070 8gb gpu too, if that makes a difference here, and 2 8gb ram sticks. Sorry for the long post, thanks for reading!
You cant go wrong with a better CPU… WOW is CPU based anyway
Consider a B550 mobo when they come out and a Ryzen5 3600 part…that should be a nice balance of price and performance that will kick most Intel build’s out the window for about half the price.
The benchmarks I’m seeing are very impressive on that CPU, unfortunately only x570 has dropped for chipset, and it’s rather expensive if you don’t need it. Technically you can use x470 but I suspect B550 will be a better fit.
Okay thanks! Ill have a look into both of those!
Some B450 boards like the MSI B450 tomahawk can be bios flashed to support the new 3000 series without an older cpu in them. I’ve seen them as low as 80 dollars.
Definitely go for a cpu/mobo upgrade. I also run a 1070 and I can tell you that unless you’re gaming in 4k you will see no difference changing cards. My buddy runs with a 1080ti, we both run at 1440p 144hz, and I get significantly better frames than him with a 7600k clocked at 4.8 vs his 6700 non k.
Also I just switched to a 9600k cause I saw a killer deal. Picked up a few frames in crowded environments. Point being, upgrading your cpu will see a huge difference in wow performance (this is all relative to wow not other games).
Like you’ll hear a lot over the coming months, best bang for the buck will be a ryzen 3600 and b450 motherboard.
Okay! Ive heard good things about that mobo! Well its my birthday today, 27 years young, guess i better treat myself.
Just a heads up, the B450 Tomahawk has issues updating. It will only flash under NTFS. I tested 2 boards, even the flash utility would not read a fat 32 file.
Get a Ryzen 3600 for $200 and a Fatal1ty X470 Gaming-ITX/ac for $100. Use your 2200g to do BIOS upgrade(s). Don’t look back afterwards.
