Damn it turns out it literally is everything I was hoping it was going to be in my original post, I did an indepth look into it all.
Dracthyr will have a kind of race-specific ability that enables full use of their wings in flight and will have the exact same behavioural mechanics as dragonriding will. Essentially a hybrid of the self-mount/druid flight form and the new dragonriding mechanics.
Absolutely perfect.

UPDATE: I want to clarify that this âflyingâ will not be the same as with flying mounts. You cannot stay in place in the air and stay up there as long as you can effortlessly as is usual with all WoW flying mounts.
Dracthyr flying will require active attention and live motion in fighting against gravity, making dives and swooping back up to gain altitude and keep yourself aloft for as long as possible before you land. This is exactly the physics and mechanics of dragonriding of which the developers have said the Dracthyr will be capable of flying with their wings just like this.
It has been stated to be like âimproved glidingâ or âDemon Hunter Glide Plusâ. The physics is very different with this mechanic of flight, fighting against gravity to stay in the air for as long as you can.
" Dragonriding isnât flying though," âYou canât mount up, take off, and hover in the air for an unlimited amount of time like traditional flying,â âDracthyr have wings so they get to fly and they use the same style of momentum and gravity that dragonriding drakes do.â [From the same sourced interview written above]
So perhaps I shouldnât call it flying but âadvanced glidingâ. Ion stated that the Dracthyr will not be able to fly outside of the Dragon Isles like a regular mount with their wings, or anywhere for that matter as they will be adhering to the Dragonriding mechanics instead with their personal flight that has been frequently called as an enhanced version of Demon Hunter gliding.
I just didnât want to give anybody the wrong impression that Dracthyr flying will be like regular flying mounts in WoW. Even though I stated clearly it was going to be using the Dragonriding mechanics above, this is still being misinterpreted, so I wanted to clarify once more but more thoroughly.
