Since season of discovery is going to have even more freedoms to adjust class play-styles, I think they should update the combinations as well, dwarfs should get to be shamans, and gnomes priests, ect. I hope this is something added later on.

I suppose that this sort of decision would mean you could either faction change or not be able to bring such characters to Classic Era servers when the season ends.

Oh, I wasn’t commenting on any affect to the Classic experience. Just pointing out that when Season of Mastery ended previously, players had the option of transferring their characters to Classic Era servers or current Classic (which was WotLK, at the time) servers.
It would be unlikely that they would allow a Dwarf Shaman or Tauren Paladin to transfer to Classic Era servers, but they could potentially either allow such Shamans/Paladins to transfer to Classic Era servers with faction changes, or simply disallow such transfers for those particular class/race combinations, meaning those who chose to play them would have to transfer those characters to whatever is the current Classic expansion when the season ends.
