An idea if they ever really go ham on the whole character creation screen -
Remove the male and female option
Add sliders for a big range of body types and features. Within reason of course, (looking at you dark souls/fallout)
As it is right now, the binary is rather absurd in WoW. The men are huge holding muscle monsters and the women are small, frail twigs. Muscled twigs, but twigs.
People arenât like that - and itâd be neat for race fantasy if you could vary up body sizes without having them need to conform to an extreme gender binary. Have your tall, strongly built orc woman, or your lanky short human man. The pronouns should be more of an after thought than a defining feature. A lot of these races canonically donât fit the extreme masculinization and feminization you see in game - and if we could have sliders for it, weâd have a lot more customization and a lot more fun variants!
Personally, I would like for there to be an option to select whether our characters prefer waffles or pancakes. And that option should be displayed directly under our charactersâ names.
This way, I can avoid the disgusting pancake-sympathizers while trying to enjoy the game.
I like all char customization ideaâs. But sadly I realize that there is only so much this engine platform can take at a time. They have to move forward slowly. Letâs start with more hair styles and individualized eyeâs and build on that. Possibly make a good customization change once every 4 patches and I would be happy.
This is one of the draws to the game for me. I like my men hyper-masculine and my women hyper-feminine, ties into the whole high fantasy thing this game is known for.
One of the things I really liked about Star Wars The Old Republic was the ability to really customize your character. The race you picked didnât have to match the body style of every other one of your race. It was fun making a really big heavy set human. And people thought Kul Tiran were fat. lol Downside, for a world with vast and amazing alien races everything was essentially human looking. No playable Wookies, Rodians, Mon Calamaris, etc.
The old engine they use doesnât support sliders. All faces are also the same rig (like the bodies) with different skins, thatâs why most of them look almost the same. They are quite limited in what they can do.
That said, they need to do more of what they can. Eye color separate from the face. Some races have very few face and hair styles, give them more. More hair colors per race. More jewelry. More tattoos. Scars. More skin tones. For Worgen separate ears from hair. For Tauren separate hair color from skin tone.
If they did your second suggestion, they wouldnât need the first one. As you could resize your body types as fitted heart. I am always amazed when I play a modern Korean designed MMO with the insane character detail they go into.
Honestly, this entire thread feels like it was just an opportunity to try and poke the âitâs 2019 and we have only two gender optionsâ meme. Very low effort.
On topic of the OP - no. Itâs fine if we have to pick make and female, and as someone else said:
Itâs absolutely fine if people pick male or female. If we had the ability to customize further, thatâs fine. Iâm all for more customization, but your first suggestion feels really disingenuous.
Pretty much this. I mean the OP spent the majority if their post trying to justify option 1 when option 2 solved their issue and would be a huge improvement to the game.
Would be nice, but with how they designed the gear in WoW this would probably have issues with textures being stretched in ways that donât look good or even more clipping, all the clipping.
