Update Problem

Tried to login this morning and received this error message:

An updated version of World of Warcraft is available. Please launch the Battle.net app to download the update.

  1. Tried to launch the game. Didn’t launch.
  2. #1 didn’t work so I closed and relaunched the Battle.Net app and then launched the game. Received same error message and the game didn’t launch.
  3. Repeated #2 many times. No joy.

What Gives?

Have you tried rebooting your PC?

There should be a gear icon on the play button when you select the game to be played. Click the gear to get a menu that will force the update.

Hey, Methuselah! Before anything, I want to compare with you on what versions the Blizzard Application and WoW are currently on.

  • For the Blizzard Application, click on the Blizzard Logo at the top-left corner, and go to Settings. At the bottom-left corner, you should see the version 1.23.2.12210.
  • For World of WarCraft, the version should be on the right of the play button. It should show version 8.3.7.35435 and for Classic, 1.13.5.35395.

One of the most common issues with the Blizzard Applications not pushing the update is because its not updated itself. A clean reinstall should do the trick.

  1. Uninstall the application
  2. Press Windows key + R and type in %temp%
  3. Delete anything related to Blizzard or Battle.net
  4. Do the same for %programdata%, %localappdata%, %appdata%
  5. Reinstall the application

If WoW is up to date, but it’s still saying this in-game. You may want to try clearing out the IDX files and running a repair scan. Otherwise, a fresh reinstall of the game should fix up the issue.
