So recently i saw a video and a WoWhead article about upcoming nerf’s to mages, reducing the damage of some of their abilites. Ive started maining a Frost Mage, and im not quite knowledgeable when it comes to WoW, so I was just wondering. Will these nerf’s be noticeable in the game? i know its only a small percentage, only around 5%, but will it change how playing a mage feels? Will it make me want to change classes? I’ve seen alot of people saying that Mage will be unfun now so i was just curious.
quick edit: its worth mentioning i only do PvE really, im not a PvP person
Your playstyle will not change. I doubt you’ll notice much of a damage drop off since you’re new anyway unless you’re glued to your meter. Just spend more time getting familiar with your rotation and see how it plays out for you when you do endgame content.
Most of the doomsayers on this forum aren’t great at the game anyway.
The damage changes won’t really be noticeable unless you’re playing high-end PVE or PVP. For questing, dungeons, and world events, the changes won’t feel very big.
I don’t think it will be all that noticeable, We have incanter’s flow running all the time that already makes small variances and its really not all that impactful.
I very mych dislike the new Frost rotation, but thats a me issue. Class will be fine, nerf is gonna hit it hard but they’ll still be viable. As far as the elemental thing people complain about, they messed up taking away the choice for people that like it for lore/rp/class fantasy reasons, but i honestly haven’t seen a water elemental this much since MoP, so i personally am ok with it appearing during Icy Veins foe me. But freedom of choice would have been better.
The aug/fire mage combo is completely broken and these nerfs do nothing to address it. Same issue will still exist.
If blizzard ever balances aug/fire/priest… fire will be crap without aug/PI. —ending up as warlocks. are. — (super good logs where they have everything PI/Aug etc) and in the dumpster outside of those conditions)
The solution is to delete Aug and PI. Just outright remove them from the game. I know people have been clamouring for a support spec for a long time, but I think that there’s a damn good reason why one was never introduced in the first 18.5 years of WoW (and the classes that pretended to be one got changed).
I suppose being new to a class is a great time to see nerfs pop up, I’m personally not familiar enough with the class to have nerfs matter yet, as the rework piqued my interest, and I don’t quite know the inner workings of mage yet, but the nerfs don’t look substantial enough to warrant a large lack of enjoyment.
At least, that’s how I see it. I’m having a blast on my newly made mage right now, and learning a bunch about it overall, and ranged overall as well.
It will have a minorly noticeable to not at all noticeable effect depending on your build. Builds that run subzero and frostbite will get about a 6.3% dps loss in 5 target against fully freezable enemies, whereas its only about 2.5% without subzero in that scenario. In st you lost nothing essentially.
The problem I have, is we need any damage we can get as frost in PvP. 10% reduction via sub zero is a huge nerf. It also nerfed frostbolt build which was already D tier as frostbolt procs frostbite often, benefitting from sub zero. Like I hate how I cast 10-15x 2 second frostbolts and don’t even break the lock shield, where the lock cast 1 chaos bolt in 2.2seconds and 1 shots me lol.
