Upcoming changes to Evoker

I looked over them and most seem ok, but there is one glaring issue.
Feed the flames. YEP, that one. Ok, it was not good before, but EVERY time blizzard moves to combine AOE to buff single target damage, it turns out bad. AoE should be AoE and ST should be ST. What this is going to do push Evokers in to casting firestorm in the single target rotation in order to get the buff to disintegrate and pyre. Why push Evokers to cast an AoE ability to get a ST buff? They did that with DKs, we all know how that turned out, they did it with Feralā€¦ you see how this is going. This is just bad class design. Imagine if they told frost mages to cast blizzard in order to buff frost bolt.
Blizz, stop trying to mix AoEs to ST in order to get people to use underwhelming AoE abilities. Please do not start retarding this class already.
Thank you.

Demon Hunters should do zero damage. Understood.

Youā€™re kind of dooming for no reason.

The reason why they did this is because if they didnā€™t, that entire side of the tree is still useless because you give up WAY too much single target for not enough AOE gain to make it worth.

Now, presuming even a tiny bit of brain power behind their tuning, that wonā€™t be the case.

This should just make an alternative build possible for big aoe fights or mythic+ where you wonā€™t have absolutely abysmal ST. The full single target build will still most likely not include great talents, and it will be easy for them to adjust if it does.

Uhhh what?

I get what you are saying, but, if it becomes anything more than a 1%-3% increase in dps to single target, then they force the AOE tangle with ST rotation, then it will become mandatory for max dps builds. I just donā€™t like it for reasons said, but, this is JUST the way I see it. If you disagree no worries. I just see potential problems with this approach they are using. Now, if they changed to something like for every X disintegrates you get a free firestorm, then cool. Just donā€™t make AoE and ST abilities rely on each other to max out.

Oh, the definition of ā€œretardingā€ means to delay or hold back development. So, I mean that in the most literal way as I posted it above. Take it easy

Yeah I mean the tl;dr of any design change discussion comes down to tuning, but Blizzard have a lot of knobs with this setup to make sure that we arenā€™t forced into casting firestorm in full ST raid encounters, etc.

The unfortunate fact is that without putting something potent for ST into this side of the tree, we would remain pigeon-holed into the tiny amount of build pathing we have available to us right now.

Iā€™d have preferred that they give firestorm a %chance per target hit to grant essence burst instead of giving extra damage to disintegrate/pyre, since that would give us insane funnel and be fun, but this could be a suitable option.

For me, unless Iā€™m reading the changes incorrectly, the biggest problem I have with these changes is that they donā€™t address how terrible firestorm feels to cast, and they do nothing to help it stick to packs.

Snapfire redesign proccing off pyre is great, but the fact that itā€™s not an instant cast anymore (unless they missed clarifying this in the wording) will make it feel even worse.

The upcoming changes do say that firestorm will be instant. That part I like, if it is accurate. But then there still is the fact that rarely mobs stay in one particular area for long. Whether it be because of the encounter mechanics or just tank position choices or random whoops maneuvers for x reasons. Without some sort of separate buff the minute a mob you are single targeting moves out of AoE then you lose the buff to damage. Still, IF my theory is correct, it will still create issues for maintaining max dps and could be an inadvertent nerf or you are forced to lose that damage without the aoe cast.
I wonā€™t even comment on the nerf to spell power component, cause, assuming they can tune it right then, ya know, whatever. But, mechanics wise I aggree, feeding essence burst or something else, ANYTHING else besides a ST and AoE wrap together would be great.

Oh you mean even the base cast itself? I only read the talent changes and saw that snapfire wording seemed to lack ā€˜instantā€™ so that would make senseā€“I like that for sure.
