Did it change the other way when it was 1 for 1? Nope didnt think so…
Time to go private servers
Most people understand that. The thing people are taking issue with is that currency rates fluctuate, up and down. And you can guarantee it will NEVER be adjusted back down.
Unless they want to change it more frequently, and actually lower the price when foreign currency goes up, there is no way you can start a post with ‘in fairness to blizzard’.
That’s the sad part. And what’s worse is that, there is no reason to adjust the prices when OCE players were already spending quite a lot for a sub. We have other countries who spend way less on a monthly sub and Blizzard doesn’t adjust theirs.
It’s sadly pure greed.
I can understand a $10 increase for 6 mths, but $20 (and probably steeper in NZ) seems like you are saying to your remaining OCE players, we don’t mind if you go play something else.
Love how they state they remain comitted to provideing excellent value for entertianment to AUS and NZ players…
When does that start? Cause yeh wow is great fun, but it is far from “exvellent value” its already overpriced and was already slightly beyond ‘affordable’ living in Sydney. Time to cancel again for awhile
My sub is ending in a few months, not renewing after that. The game is becoming too expensive to play, let alone buy anything from the shop.
They’ll probably jack up the prices on us again before the year is out after the US economy tanks from a trade war.
Blizzard is a joke, time to unsub until they make a decent expac
It definitely reads that way. If it was paired with a commitment to match US sub cost currency conversion every X months, that would make sense, but this is opportunistic and will not be rolled back when the US economy tanks. We will essentially pay more. They are of course allowed to do this but it’s very disappointing. Sadly also my sub just renewed for a year so I’m doubtful I can get that back and leave now.
How many people got the new Bronto mount? Here in OCE it was $120 AUD, I would like to see how much they made on SUCH a limited time mount.
Further more announce that it is going and that you have a limited time to get it so FOMO sets in and more people jump only to say “Hey about your sub price guess what”
Edit **
Frostmourne OCE - 25 CE Guilds Avg 25 people per roster = 75,000K
USD - 46,901
AUD - 75,000
AH mount.
$90 USD
$120 AUD
$143 at actual exchange rate.
While it sucks, it’s not Blizzard’s fault. The value of the Aussie dollar is abysmal and they have actually kept it lower than actual exchange rate for a really long time now.
So tie the two together at a regular interval. Then people know it’s coming and if we bounce back we get a fair shake… but yeah nope
Almost $300 a year just to play, and then $60 annually if you include the expansion costs. Actually ridiculous
Compare to any other games on the market they are literally just taking advantage now
I just want to point out that, while I obviously agree that a price hike is brutal and this one feels especially so at 20%, this currently brings the sub to the same value as a sub paid in USD.
The US price is US$14.99 on a month-to-month plan. The conversion to AUD would be A$23.97. So, we’ve essentially been receiving a consistent drop in price for a while, it just never feels like that.
I think the issue that really exists is the decision to increase it now, rather than later, and the fact it will never come down. If, or probably when, the US economy worsens, and the Australian Dollar goes up in value, we then will start paying a more expensive subscription than Americans.
Edit: I want to clarify, I think this is crap. I don’t like spending more money as much as the next person and I’m not looking forward to having to do so, especially when I already found the price expensive as it was and everything is becoming more expensive, making entertainment harder to afford. I only wanted to provide a more balanced perspective.
I really wish our exchange rates were better
Even if in the next few month our exchange rates changed to .80 AUD = 1 US, Blizzard would not then reduce the subscription.
Effectively Blizzard is increasing profits across the board on everything and they will just use anything to justify it. If it wasn’t the exchange rate it would be something else.
Just look at any other online games and see how much they charge their user base monthly
Lmao I know right?
It’s insane that they wanna hike up the prices, but not release a stable service.
I’m still encountering game breaking bugs from previous expansions, AND current.
Multiple disconnects daily, which get reported and ignored because even after a year plus, still coming across them.
Let us not forget, assuming that it does go back into the company and the game, and not to the owners pockets, the really terrible customer service. If the moneys going there, it would need to be for training, and not hiring more illiterate chimps.
Blizz, what’s your mental gymnastics on justifying the 25% roughly increase of subs for a subpar service?
There is literally 0 justification for the hike.
Servers are based in one of the cheapest places in AU for rent, either personal or business. 2nd lowest for rates. A dogwater service of a game. Dogs rear offerings for a support service.
Where’s the money going for it?
Is it for DEI hires or consultancy? Is it for “wages” (undeserved)? For rates (thats unneeded realistically)
Blizz, just say you hate OCE. It’ll be the most believable thing.
Well here we go again another price increase based on the premis gambling on the currency exchange. Throw in taxes and of course just charge more for everything because of a smaller market and it is horendous.
Like everything else in this neck of the woods related to gaming it sure is becoming expensive entertainment. Sigh.
