Unusual Allied Races for the Alliance and Horde

This has been percolating in my head for months, and if Dracthyr might be getting a Tanking Specc soon, or even access to other classes, I’d love to see these races come into the game for players.

Horde: Ogres, Yaungol, Hozen, we’ve been over these before a hundred times, so we’ll push that aside.

Sethrakk

The Sneks might be an unusual fit, but considering a number of Sethrakk refused to join Korthakk's mad crusade and with their Vulpera and Zandalari allies joining the Horde, and especially this new, more peaceful Horde, they might decide to expand beyond the dunes themselves, especially after learning there are stone versions of their people serving the Titan Watchers ...

Warriors, Paladins, Shamans, Mages, Priests, Rogues and Hunters?

Tortollan

With the Tortollan now part of the new Zanchuli Council, it could be time for the Tortollans to officially join the Horde as well. Furthermore, the union of the Reliquary and the Explorer’s League would absolutely fascinate them, especially with the opportunity to record more stories for Torga and explore the ancient magics of the Dragon Flights and even the Titan Watchers themselves.

Warriors, Hunters, Shamans, Mages, Priests, Monks, Warlocks and Rogues?

For the Alliance!

Frost Dwarves

A unique offshoot, not Earthen nor Dwarven, the Frostborn are creatures of flesh, but supernaturally infused with the frozen cold of Northrend, much as the Dark Irons are infused with the elemental powers of the Firelands, and have a strong relationship with the Ironforge Dwarves, and through them, the Council of Three Hammers and the Alliance itself. I think it would be fascinating to see the Frostborne come to officially join the Alliance under the umbrella of their Dwarven kin.

Warrior, Hunter, Death Knight, Rogue, Shaman and Mage?

Ankoan

With the destruction of the Nazjatar and the avenging of their slain leader, the Ankoan seemingly disappeared from sight, and with the return of the Naga, and potentially of Azshara herself, I’d love to see the Ankoan return to the Alliance, bringing dire news of a new Naga uprising and the reunification of the bickering Naga factions now that their Queen may be returning to Azeroth. The Ankoan might even have gone on a pilgrimage to reunify their distant kin in Pandaria into a new, nomadic kingdom devoted to cleansing the sea of the taint of the Old Gods and all who serve them, and with the Alliance’s focus on the Light, might see the Alliance as the natural allies for their crusade.

Warrior, Paladin, Shaman, Mage, Priest, Rogue and Hunter?

What other odd or unusual races that have history with the Mega-Factions do you think might make for an interesting permanent addition to the roster?

Hozen pls and thank you.

Arakkoa would be awesome too.

Gotta put in for Saberon for the Horde. They all fled into the wilds after they came from AU Draenor and they are pretty cool. I’m legit unsure what they could add to the Alliance that isn’t “mainstream” that you have not said already. Maybe some kind of curveball like lightforged orcs. I know people think Yrel is going to lead some light invasion, myself included mostly but tbh that was one scenario getting only partial info from one side. And I think it could work. Yrel, Turalyon, and our LF Draenei would probably get along really well.

Horde shouldve gotten a clan of Mogu and pandas to the Alliance

For unusual I’d go with Satyr for the Alliance. With the Legion defeated and Xavius dead, I could see a bunch of them being sort of rudderless and looking for help. Plus add in the fact that it is a curse and you could have a group honestly seeking some kind of redemption and all the struggles that go with that. In fact there’s already a quest in Darkshore dealing with a Satyr seeking Elune’s forgiveness so it even has precedence in lore. Plus it would add another layer of dissonance that I think the Alliance could use a little more of. Like Demon Hunters and mages, the Night Elves would likely not be comfortable with the idea of accepting them back at first and that could make for some interesting story bits.

For Classes; Warrior, Rogue, Hunter, Warlock (just because you’re seeking redemption doesn’t mean you’re redeemed yet after all), Mage. I kind of want to say Druid, though that’s likely pushing the boundaries lorewise. I think I’d just want to see some wicked creepy Emerald Nightmare inspired animal forms.

Edit: Oh and probably Priests too. Shadow Priest seems fitting and you could still go with the redemption angle for the other specs.

Gnolls for Horde and Furbolg for Alliance would be fun I think. Especially with both races getting some nice revamps in this expansion. Warrior, hunter, rogue, and shaman for each with Gnolls getting Warlocks and Furbolg getting druids for classes I guess?

I always thought Draenei should have been Furbolg in BC instead of retconning Eredar/Draenei. I mean, I love Draenei now, but Furbolg just seemed a more natural fit for an Alliance race that would bring shaman into the Blueside fold.

Arrakoa would be neutral and could join Horde or Alliance. Also we should get both of their body forms to choose from, either permanent or as something we can pop in and out of at will.

Same goes with Nightborne, their Withered forms look so much better than just more pretty elves and we need more customization for them anyway.

Ethereals! I don’t know how customization would work for them, but it sure would be fun. And they’re squarely neutral so they can swing both factions.

I’m loving all these ideas. TBH, I feel like Blizz could drop a new race every expac or every other expac and give us better choices. Even if they’re on the same body model types, it’d be fine.

My personal preference is for Tuskarr and Naga.

Frost Dwarves got recent update in lore, maybe them and taunka have a chance. But my dream are Ogres and Tuskarr xD

A frost dwarf with a frozen beard would be sick too

I will forever think that instead of more Allied Races cluttering up the character creation screen, Blizz needs to start combining stuff into ‘ethnicities’ for each race. Then there would be more room for on the screen AND for the opportunity to add truly new races that have solid reasoning to be in each faction.

And then we need to have a Neutral faction where we have races like Pandaren and then various other playable races they might release that serves more as a ‘you chose to leave your homand and join X faction’.

That means we could see a ton of variation in just random adventurers in Horde of Alliance vs the bog standard races.

This is the hill I have chosen to die on.

100% agree

Lightforged Draenei and Hightauren Mountain should have never been allied races, just customization options. Same with Dark Iron Dwarves and Maghor Orcs. You could make an argument due to the models being entirely different for Kul Tirans, but I still think they should have just been another customization option too.

Slowly sweeps Mechagnomes into a garbage bin.

I support wanting mechagnomes and them as an allied race.

I don’t support Junkyard Cult members who are Bargain Bin 40k Techpriests.

Skinny Kul Tirans for the Horde.

Honestly, I want the Fogsail Pirates to join the Horde. We kinda just … left them to be absolutely murked by the vengeful Kul’tirans, and it would be nice to have normal humans and skinny humans within this new Horde (and better, IMO) that we have in Dragonflight.

For the Alliance, I’d love to see them get Goblins from a rival Cartel show up and pledge allegiance since the Horde … keeps on losing, and the Bilgewater Cartel has become something of a cautionary tale amongst the remaining Cartels. The problem is, I’m scratching to figure out which Horde-like or -aligned race would not only be willing to risk reaching out to the Alliance, but would even be accepted?

The major one already exists with the backhanded giving of High Elves. You could also go with AU Shadowmoon Orcs under Rulkan or a successor. They joined forces with the Alliance during the WoD campaign. Or, if the Alliance ends up opening another portal to AU Draenor, you could have the Lightbound Orcs with AU Garrosh Hellscream as faction leader and having paladins playable while removing warlocks. When in doubt, another variant of the Tauren can be introduced and be an Alliance or neutral faction.

The fact that the literal Broken Draenei faction gave us discount elves instead of Broken is still a crime the game has never recovered from.

This, except they should have given us broken Draenei instead of the pretty space goats. I’d have mained alliance for a while if they’d done this.

Same. Give us Broken bois.

I would go with two suggestions. First, Jinyu for Alliance and Naga (with humanoid transformation) for Horde. This opens up the opportunities for underwater cities and exploration in the coming expansions. Jinyu working with the Alliance needs no explanation. Horde already has good ties with Nightborne (which share a common ancestor) and Naga would never be accepted by Tyronde. Having a transforming race (like Worgen for the Horde is a good way to add equality). Second, Vyrkul for Alliance and Mok’nathal (half-ogre) for Horde. There is plenty of history of coordination with both groups. They both look good without being too derpy and there is symmetry with introducing two giant races at the same time.
