Hardcore wow community is all this game has anymore. The game is ZERO fun without raiding. Say what you want about the "1.7 Million subs" meme, but look at RealmPop. Guess what, that's about how many 120 characters there are in NA. Do you honestly think there are a ton of people playing this game without at least ONE 120 character. Assuming most people have 1 alt at 120, this is just a super small number. Wow is DYING.
Literally the ONLY !@#$ING THING that is keeping this game afloat is the unrelenting hardcore playerbase that apologizes for all of blizzards shortcomings and makes excuses and calls everyone lazy for not wanting to do the stupid meaningless CHORES they put in this game.
There are at least 5 people in my small guild that have not purchased BFA yet. Ive talked to several more who are coming back after a long hiatus who are catching up on older content before they purchase BFA as well.
Realmpop is not accurate and should be judged accordingly.
Regarding the hardcore wow community: my guild is quite casual with an average of 50 members who enjoy all aspects of WoW and we are having a ton of fun. We are very far from hardcore. Our guild grows with more like minded individuals each day.
Im not trying to invalidate what you wrote, just trying to show you a different perspective.
Realmpop is absolutely a completely valid metric to how healthy the game is. Players at max level are active players. Your friends who haven't bought BFA yet, or surmising that some people are "coming back after a hiatus" how is that not a completely anecdotal experience? Realmpop simply accounts for most players in the game currently. The situation is a bit better worldwide, as there are a total of about 4.5M 120 characters between the EU and NA, being very generous to Blizzard, lets cut those in half which accounts for alts so about 2.3M subs in EU/NA and what would think is fair for Oceanic/Asia? Another 3M? The game is still smaller than it ever has been in the midst of the most poorly received start of an expansion ever.
They are probably HEMORRHAGING subs right now. Let's be real.
