Unstable connection

I’ve been having this issue for about a month and a half now. Started right after the big Amazon outage. Basically, my connection seems fine, low latency and everything then suddenly it drops for a few seconds. Sometimes, it doesn’t reconnect and doesn’t disconnect me either, I have to downright alt-F4 out of the game. I can sometimes go nearly half an hour without issues and other times it happens every minute or so. Here is what I’ve done in attempts to fix the issue:

  1. I reset my modem/router.
  2. I made sure all my drivers are updated.
  3. I flushed my DNS then released and renewed my IP.
  4. I tried running WoW without anything else running in the background.
  5. I reset my firewall and made sure there was an exception for WoW.
  6. Made sure I wasn’t using any proxies.
  7. I made sure Windows Defender is up to date and Windows 11 as well.
  8. Tried running without addons.
  9. Went to Network options in game and turned off “Optimize Network for Speed.”
  10. Turned on “Enable ipv6 when available.”
  11. Contacted my ISP who checked my connection and saw nothing wrong and remotely updated my firmware.
  12. Did a full network reset.
  13. Doing an install repair.

None of those worked. Here are a few more important details:

  1. My internet does not actually drop. I checked, I can easily stream other things without dropping and access websites without issues.
  2. The one exception is Twitch. I started having issues with Twitch at the exact same time as I did with WoW. I’ll watch a stream and it’ll suddenly start buffering or dropping quality for several seconds. I sometimes need to reload the page.
  3. If I have Twitch open in the background, the WoW disconnections happen at precisely the same time as Twitch starts buffering or dropping quality. So there’s definitely a relationship.
  4. If I watch Twitch on the app on my phone on my home wifi, I do not have any connection issues.
  5. Before anyone asks, yes, the disconnections still happen if I’m not watching Twitch at the same time as WoW is running.
  6. This is happening both on the live client and the Midnight beta client.

So I’m guessing my PC is having trouble connecting to a port which is used by both Twitch and WoW. I don’t know how I would fix that though.

You might have a routing issue along the route to the wow servers. Might help to try a VPN, change your location. Other apps would not display issues, because the data takes different routes. Your ISP would not see an issue because they will test from them to you, but not from them to Blizzard. If it is a routing issue, it would be outside of what Blizzard and Your ISP monitor, but it might help if your ISP can connect with that provider.

Might help to know where you connect from, what ISP, what kind if internet.

Well, I have NordVPN so I tried connecting through a VPN. Same issue, both on WoW and Twitch. I connect from Laval, Quebec, ISP is Vidéotron and it’s cable internet.

Did find a reddit post, this is LoL specific, but they are receiving contacts from the ISP that they are investigating a Riot connection.

So your internet may be just fine, but something in the route is bad, and you probably will have to wait for that to be fixed.

Oh, then that explains a lot. It did get a lot worse in the last four days. Thanks for this, at least I won’t keep messing with stuff on my side.
