Unscientific Poll about SoD and Subscriptions

Curious if anyone here would claim to be subscribed to WoW 100% purely and ONLY for playing Season of Discovery?

Or if the vast majority of SoD players are subscribed for other versions and SoD is just some side-thing they do because it’s ‘new’ and it’s there so you might as well play it some?

I resubbed again after 6 years for SoD

But SoD turned out to be a massively unfun disappointment due to extreme pvp imbalances and the bandaid fixes just making things worse and wonky.

I gave up faith completely in the classic wow devs

I unsubbed for a month but a friend talked me into trying retail and the pvp is surprisingly really fun.

If SoD was just a bait and switch to get people off classic and onto retail then I guess it worked on me just by virtue of how bad the classic wow dev team is anyway lol

I definitely subscribe to this theory

Thanks for your feedback!

Unfortunately SoD is just too low-budgeted. For those who are expecting a Classic+, how do you know it’s actually going to exist?

I’m just playin for SoD. I’d play for classic if they had another round of TBC or maybe wotlk… but cata is garbo and retail is garbo.

I’m just here for SoD.

Even if I have to admit, Cata Classic isn’t that much fun. I had the most fun during BC/BC Classic. I didn’t care LK Classic because of the many types of different dungeon concepts (Omega/Omicron/Delta/Beepboopbeep heroics).

SoD can be fun, but fully depending on the class you play. I love boomies, but everything else is just not fun for me at all.

I’ve been subbed solely for Classic ever since it launched in 2019. Retail has been unsalvageable since WoD and I’m never going to play it again.

This is the camp I’m in also.

Thanks to all the SoD-only feedback too though, I see some of that is genuine.

I played Shadowlands during patch 9.0 and quit after patch 9.0.5 when my guild of IRL friends got AOTC during Castle Nathria. After that, we essentially called it quits til SoD Phase 1.

I played SoD Phase 1 alongside DF casually. I quit Phase 2 after the beginning of February since I just didn’t want to do the same thing as Phase 1, nor did I want to grind to another bracket. I just wanted to be 60 already. As well, around a month later I chose to pursue retail more, but I quit after a month of patch 10.2, not because it was a bad version of the game but because I just didn’t have fun personally pursuing AOTC anymore, along with not really being a collector. It especially felt boring for me since none of my RL friends played either version anymore.

I tried coming back during Phase 3 but didn’t want to raid so I played casually, leveling, and playing other games. Now that Phase 4 is out, I’ve been playing ever since. Found a guild, made some in-game friends, and am now casually raiding again. I do wish the game could be as casual as Phase 1 felt where leveling to “max” was quick, and we could go back to 10m raids, maybe including flex.

I don’t think I’ll be playing Classic Era ever again unless SoD tanks and a Fresh server is announced. Even then, SoD kind of ruined my desire to play any other version of the game. So if I quit SoD, I honestly might quit WoW until another version comes out that’s enjoyable.

*sorry to clarify the timeline, I didn’t play WoW again for more than a week here and there until SoD Phase 1.

I was subbed only for SoD, but it became a slog fest, so now my sub is running on a timer to expire after I blew through all my excess gold from WotLK to re-up it for a few extra months awhile back.

Cata is :toilet::poop:

And I’m refusing to chase the metaphorical carrot they keep putting in front of players to chase only to make it useless in the next expansion.

This is exactly why I play era.

SoD exclusive here.

SoD. dabbled in TWW after not playing Dragonflight at all but im pretty much over it already.

Currently I am only playing SoD.

But if I weren’t I’d play hardcore. I just only have time for one version and SoD has a slight edge for me in the fun department. I mean. Homunculi. But I enjoy hardcore as well, and either version on its own would be enough for me to stay subbed for a while.

In all likelihood, neither would be enough for me to stay subbed for more than a few months. [Edit: actually, if SoD had stayed the way it was during phase 1, I would’ve stayed subbed a good long time.] WoW has been seasonal for me the past few years. It’s like cold-weather comfort food. The Westfall stew of video games.

If I weren’t playing some version of Classic I would not sub at all. For the first time since Burning Crusade, I did not buy the retail expansion.
