Ah, yes, the classic WoW maintenance fix. Here’s what you actually need to do to get it working:
Uninstall the game (obviously).
Reboot your entire system—twice, for good luck.
Reformat your hard drive (don’t worry, those family photos weren’t that great anyway).
Remove your graphics card and dust it off while chanting, ‘By the power of Azeroth, may this maintenance end.’
Consider sacrificing an Ethernet cable to the mighty server gods.
Finally, reinstall Windows (or your entire operating system) because clearly this maintenance is a deeper issue that’s probably not even related to WoW anymore.
And once you’ve done all that…well, by then, maintenance should be over. Problem solved!
It does suck as it is an “Unscheduled shutdown”, and it was a quick 24 hour notice but it’s a small hotfix most likely from Tuesdays which was huge. This is a rather good thing as Blizz is on their feet keeping us running.
40 years of gaming, hotfixes are good… Hope this helps ya a bit.
Upon picking the Skip Maw quest you go to Oribos and then nothing happens. Naturally all people tried abandoning the quest but now the quest giver is gone for you and you aren’t able to enter the Maw or pick a faction. So no SL for your alt at all. Even if you didn’t abandon it, nothing happens in Oribos so you end up with the same scenario. There were threads and customer service answers telling that there isn’t any problem with alts and SL.
So basically - There is no war in Ba Sing Se situation.
Well, there goes my grand plan to finally drag a few alts through Shadowlands! Guess I’ll be putting that on hold until Blizzard decides to play nice with the Maw portal. Apparently, all it takes is one little ‘Skip’ click, and poof—you’re locked out like you’ve forgotten the secret password to get back into Oribos. I’d heard Shadowlands was supposed to be this mystical realm between life and death, but I didn’t realize it came with its own built-in limbo for alts.
Looks like those alts of mine will just be chilling back in Azeroth a bit longer…probably wondering why I keep leveling them up only to abandon them at expansion launches. Come on, Blizz—free our alts from Oribos purgatory!
That’s it, Blizzard! I simply cannot tolerate this madness—an entire hour of maintenance?! A month and a half into the new expansion, and I’m already on the brink! Clearly, this is my breaking point, and I am definitely quitting the game over this.
Of course, I’ll be logging in the second the servers are back up to let everyone know I’m quitting, but after that, I am done—well, until raid night. And yeah, I’ll probably still resub next month, but this is my official warning: another hour-long maintenance, and I might just think about unsubscribing again. Maybe.
