Unpopular opinion: Fated is not a replacement for new content!

At the end of Shadowlands the player base was desperate for any kind of “new” content and I agree that in that context fated was a great last-minute idea that the developers came up with to plug what was then going to be a year-long content drought. Again, it was acceptable because of the dire need and the lack of options, but it is NOT acceptable as part of the regular rotation.
We already pay a premium for this game with having to pay for each expansion AND a subscription AND there being microtransactions as well. Now Blizz wants to have us pay for expansions more often AND recycle old dungeons AND now regularly recycle entire expansions with fated seasons. All instead of producing new content which we pay an extreme premium for… I SAY NO!

Well, when the likely alternative is 3-4 months with nothing to do in WoW…I will readily accept fated raids as filler content.

I guess this is one of those “vote with your wallet” type situations

I liked fated, it was kinda cool to have all tiers relevant at the end of the expansion. But then again I thought zereth mortis was a neat place too.

Blizzard created the problem, and we must hold them accountable to fix it. You realize that right? It is not a binary choice, if we as the customers demand actual new content and reject this fated nonsense, they will have to oblige.

I’m still kinda sad I missed out on the slime cat. If they have another time-limited reward for completing all the fated on normal I might actually try for it this time.

Assuming you can get enough people to agree with you.

Best of luck!

Ok. Have at it, lol. But ummm, how exactly are you planning to hold the multi-billion dollar company “accountable”?

Exactly.

Continuing to make content at the end of an expansion just takes more people off the next expansion.

Fated seasons free up developers who would have been wasted on .3 or .4 patches they didn’t want to do. These yearly expansions are a good move imo minus the prices that are coming with it.

There will be less content droughts.

Testing the limits of what your class can do with gear and borrowed power from across the whole xpac and whatever dungeons they choose for the M+ pool (hopefully all the mega dungeons) is a pretty dang fun way to spend the downtime while they work on the new xpac instead of having to rush out more content

What do you want them to do?

Honestly

DF is over. There’s no real point of adding new content if blizz is done with the expac. RN WoW’s main focus is WW (as it should be)

They can’t focus on making new content for a expac which is almost done with

It’s going to take the majority that are going to do say mythic raiding to complete it a few months . The few groups that get done early are most likely going to be the ones doing the early Beta . These fated type seasons are just a litle something so the rest of us have something to do until TWW launches . It’s either that or we spend a full year on the tree alone like we did with ICC , Dragon Soul, SoO and HFC.

Pretty much. People don’t have to stay subbed during that time. But to some, it’s fun content.

No way! You all were spamming ICC for a year?! And nothing else to do?!!

Jesus, my condolences.

Historically, the alternative had been content drought. Obviously, new content (as is planned for the WS Saga) is the best, but fated is better then nothing.

I honestly don’t think this is an even remotely unpopular opinion. The raid numbers at the time showed it. It’s a boring re-hash of the same things we’ve already done before. Like we don’t already have M+ doing the same thing baseline, on top of it bringing back old dungeons.

I wasn’t a was a hard core noob (as in I started in the Wrath prepatch . But the patch tier was that long .

Again, are you all working for Blizzard, they don’t need to “free up developers”, they can hire more developers if “they don’t have enough to produce a constant stream of new content”, that is literally what we pay for. They are a multi-BILLION dollar company.
Would you all rush to defend your landlord if they suddenly wanted you to pay the rent weekly instead of monthly, and also you needed to start paying a fee each time you used the appliances?

But would you prefer a year of Garrosh scenario? I unsubbed over that, just sayin.

God you are horribly naïve. If you think they give a damn about what players think, you’ve clearly missed the last several xpacs.

Well I don’t think any of us are arguing that new content is better than a fated season. The question is how long are we spending in a fated season before the expansion launches. If we spend 2-4 months in a fated before the expansion I can deal with it, if they give us fated for any longer then that they should have given us another major patch instead. We’ll see, I’m ok with fated as long as it is not expected to be the same length as a normal season.

Not defending them, just saying how it is.

Yea they should hire more devs I agree. But they don’t. A lack of a .3 doesn’t bother me because i’ll just go play other games if I don’t feel like I have a reason to engage with WoW.
