Unofficial Sethrak Discussion Thread 🐍

I really hope blizzard has at least one more AR pair in the works for this expac. Surely they’d have to know that vulpera would be hugely exciting and popular on the horde, and i would hope that they’d notice that the original reveal of junker gnomes at 2018 blizzcon was met with awkward silence :cricket:.

Also, like the vulpera, there is no other AR that’s in a tug-o-war between people wanting them on their faction, which just goes to show how successful an AR they would be. If you look through this thread, most of the arguments aren’t that they shouldn’t happen, but rather that they belong on faction :red_circle: or :large_blue_circle:. I’ve only seen this with vulpera (which, let’s be honest, were never gonna be alliance even before the purge squads).

There’s just so many things that the Sethrak are to this game, to this system, and to their paired race out in Voldun, to leave them on the cutting room floor.

Please, Blizzard. Give us our :snake:. I will sub until this game’s servers go cold.

I didn’t think Vulpera were going to be on Alliance either. They screamed Horde from the get go. Which is why I naturally thought Sethrak would go Alliance. Though I completely understand Horde’s stance and would be just as happy if they go Horde. Which I think that is how most of us feel now.

But yeah, I’m hoping we see a “final” pair release “for” Worgen and Forsaken.

I’m a nobody and I’ve been able to point out several lore based and easily implemented excuses and parallels to add Sethrak. As have other people of this community. :woman_shrugging: If Blizzard hasn’t found the same or similar ideas, or is looking for inspiration, please take our ideas. We just want to help.

Let’s remember that nightborne and voidblood elves were two races with very shallow motivations to end in the horde and alliance.

So I don’t know why Blizzard would have a hard time justifying sethraks in the alliance, just remembering that their home has been treated very poorly by the Zandalar, with all criminals and pariahs of zandalar being exiled in their region, causing various problems, and with Bowsandii, now being the Loa above the Loas, a proven source of friction with the sethraks, who only recognize Sethraliss as their loa, as points of disagreement between the serpent people and their neighbor trolls.

Any of these points could be used to take the sethraks to the alliance.

Blizzard just needs to want it.
Or perhaps we receive a race of clay gnomes or another breed of light forged undeads as compromise, thus ending, rotting the alliance.

It’s far easier to justify them being Horde.

Tacking Sethrak to Uldum Accord would be quite easy.

With other characters from the Hearthstone set showing up in Uldum on the PTR for 8.3, they could add Vessina. If she isn’t already planned. She is a Sethrak. Cue quest from her (or even another member of the Uldum Accord). She asks if you know Vorrik. Tells you she has a message, etc for him and if you could bring it to him. You do that. The Uldum Accord wants help taking on N’Zoth’s invasions or some other task (Vorrik is familiar with dealing with Old Gods and their minions and has knowledge on them). Vorrik agrees but may need help rallying his people and reuniting them as one. If you help him with this and help stop N’Zoth, his people may join your faction. With a questline and rep grind of Uldum Accord.

This could make them a Neutral Ar.

Or, it could be Horde or Alliance. Just depends how Blizzard would want to implement it.

As for the possibility of Sethrak being added in Shadowlands, I have thought of a couple options. (I think I have mentioned before but will outline in more detail):

  1. Sulthis and Serrik are dead, therefore should be in the Shadowlands. Although, Serrik is likely in the Maw. Players could encounter Sulthis. Maybe he is thankful for what you’ve done in Vol’dun but needs more from you. Prove yourself to the Covenant he is associated with and maybe find a way to free Serrik from the Maw and he will bestow you with something to give to Vorrik or Sethrallis herself that will convince them to join a larger cause. Questline and Covenant rep grind.

  2. Sethraliss has been dead before. She should know the Shadowlands and should have a connection to Bwonsamdii. Perhaps she offers to help you. And also asks you to save Serrik and the other souls lost in the Maw. Prove yourself in Shadowlands and as a friend of the Sethrak and maybe the people who worship her will join your cause.

Uldum Accord rep could still be used by either of these ideas as well.

They’re sort of related to eachother. Honestly it could just be one large idea, but that’s what I have. Please feel free to add on to any of them! And I will edit as more thoughts occur to me.

I doubt they would be neutral and if they were to join a faction it would be horde. There is no strong logic that can remotely hint otherwise. Horde liberated their people and restored their god.

They owe the alliance next to nothing in compsrison to horde interactions.

Vorrik talking to alliance was simply a demo quest to get alliance interested in their story, the horde has them on alliance lands as well that end just as abruptly.

And sethrak isnt even remotely relatable to the nightbourne scenario as it was shared content, sethrak was made for horde lands and content.

Why tho? Just because they exist? Vulpera was there too and Alliance had NOTHING with them! I truly don’t believe that Blizzard would just introduce Sethrak for the Alliance without a reason… and there’s interactions beetwen them and Umbric too.
Unfortunatly Blizzard made all cool new races on the “horde side” of the xpac, but there’s enough ground for them to introduce them as an Alliance AR, would be good for the game after the Vulpera/MGnome fiasco.

I’d be happy if they joined Horde. But for the sake of argument, Alliance is not out of the question either. There are some small but possibly telling details that could put Sethrak on Alliance side. A comment Magister Umbric makes, that was changed from his original dialogue. As well as other dialogue that supports interest in working with the Sethrak again in the future.

Aside from that, I could say the sole fact Vulpera went Horde is enough for Sethrak to be Alliance. I know Vorrik helped the Vulpera out but I can’t see Nisha being okay with having an alliance with a race that has a history of enslaving them. Even if it was only the Faithless. Bad blood can just be that. And if Vorrik were to reunite the remaining Faithless with his Devoted again? Making them pledge to right their wrongs, and set aside past misdoings? I don’t see Nisha and her collection of Sethrak skulls taking kindly to that.

All in all, Horde or Alliance? Who cares. There are grounds for them to go either way. And I’m going to be happy as long as they make the cut. I got toons on both sides. I like both factions. I’ll main Horde from here on out if Sethrak join the Horde. And have no qualms with race or faction changing either.

You missed part of my post, blizzard introduced us to the drust and all that in demo quests and it just ends abruptly and we know how that ends with alliance.

So trying to conjure a deeper meaning is just wishful thinking.

Oh!
On this note. What racials have been discussed? I’ve been wanting to talk about that.

Lmao, when /spit gets a unique animation for Sethrak.

I cant concede this because the comment “the grounds can go either way” is just hog wash, it cant be respected because the substance behind it isnt meaningful.

Such token comments dont insinuate a grand standing or any such noise, and we all know the grandiose efforts the horde has done for Sethrak.

No matter how you look at it you are comparing pebbles to boulders and saying the pebbles achivements matter when they don’t really exist or carry little merit.

They were a race made for horde lands and they only deal with horde, a token alliance demo quest is just that, a demo quest. Horde had them on alliance side and they end just as abruptly.

For a final note, Nisha had positive comments about Vorrik so we cant make claims they would just shout the sethrak out, its also clear from a design stand point the sethrak were never intended to be playable in the slightest with how their models and everything are.

I’m just stating a fact from a “How could Blizzard make this work” standpoint. An “excuse” if you will, to add them somewhere. I don’t disagree with you. Logically, yes Sethrak should go Horde. But not everything in WoW is based on perfect logic.

I want an excuse to go back to Horde. Sethrak is my perfect excuse.

But if for some reason, imperfect logic prevails and those little pebbles win out, and they end up on Alliance. Well? Okay. I will not complain.

I might add the Nightborne models were hardly player ready and lookie there. And I kinda preferred a lot of the aspects of their npc models.

Would they have poison resistance? Not sure if thats a thing still… lol
I love the idea that they’d have a poison bite or spit attack. That’d be awesome and yes please a unique spit animation.
They work with glass and gems and such so maybe a bonus to mining and jewelcrafting?

They definitely could. The snake species their design pulls the most heavily from have immunity to most venoms. Cobras eat other snakes, including other cobras. And Vipers/Pitvipers will do so as well on occasion. And they den communally so accidental biting of friends can happen.

Crafting bonus could be nifty!

The racials I came up with are as follows. Some of them have vague points so they could be further customized IF any of these ideas are considered or implemented by Blizzard:

  1. Spit Venom. (Active)
You coat your weapon(s) in your own venom. Your weapon applies a debuff for up to an hour. (Think kinda like assassination Rogue)
    Or.
You spit venom at enemy target, damaging them and blinding them for 10 seconds.

  2. Shed Skin. (Active)
Heal for ____ and remove up to two physical debuffs. Cannot be activated more than every 2 minutes.

  3. Scaly Hide. (Passive)
    10% natural armor bonus

  4. Intimidating Glare. (Active)
You flare your hood and rattle your tail! Stun/Daze up to 3 enemies for _____.
(This would work even if the female models have no rattle because tail rattling is universal in defensive snake behavior. It’s not just rattlesnakes. Just a little less impressive coming from other species lol.)

  5. Electrical Affinity. (Passive)
You have electrified scales and a knack for all things shocking.
Upon being struck by an enemy, you have a chance of shocking them. Creates chain electricity that deals aoe damage to up to 3 enemies.
    Or.
You can cast Call Lightning. (Active)

  6. Play Dead. (Active)
    You play dead. How dramatic!

^ This would function similarly to the Hunter’s Feign Death skill. MANY snakes play dead to avoid predators. Cobras included. It would not stack with Feign Death if Hunter is a class for them. Feign Death could just override it.

  1. Infrared senses. (Passive)
You know where the enemy’s vitals are with just a couple of tongue flicks. 2% to Critical Strike.
^ This is coming from the heat sensing “pit” organs on the aptly named Pitvipers, which Sethrak have characteristics of. These “heat pits” are located on either side of the face, below the nostril. Boas and Pythons have them as well. But have multiple and they run along the lips of the animal.

  2. Snake in the grass. (Active)
You gain stealth for 30 seconds. Does not stack with other stealth skills.

  3. Cobra Lunge. (Active)
You drop/lower your hood, increasing your speed and attack damage.
Increase to Haste and Agility for ____. Gain increased movement speed up to ____% for 30 seconds. (A Cobra’s hood is mainly for defense and warning, and slows their ability to bite or maneuver. They mean business if they decide to drop it!)

Perhaps? Sethraks have a unique style of clothing and may also have a racial for blacksmithing.
