Unofficial Naga Playable Race Discussion Thread

In the original WC3 campaign editor, I made cool 100% Naga based factions. 100% all naga everything. They have some pretty cool lore. They were the lucky Night Elves who didn’t get forcibly turned into satyrs or who didn’t become High Elves who later became Blood Elves. Naga are cool.

During Phase 6 of Season of Discovery, players will be able to play as a Naga for five minutes with “Bubbles’ Rod of Bubbles.”

Legs is already done. Newest models work just fine with them, texture just wraps around the body. The one that isn’t is boots and I could do without them showing up. No big loss to me. Could even just make it a piece of jewelry on the end of the tail instead.

I’d still quite like to play a naga. Always liked their design.

Likewise. I remember back when BC was first announced and seeing that the Blood Elves were joining the Horde, and wondering if the rest of the Illidari would factor in some way.

In thinking about what classes the Taunka would have, my mind ended up drifting to the other races I would like playable and what classes they could have. Thus I made the following breakdown for the Naga.

Evergreen: Hunter, Mage, Priest, Rouge, Warrior, and Warlock.
Potential classes: Monk (open to all but the Dracthyr), Shaman (There were Naga shaman in the RPG. While it is non canon, we have things from the RPG make their way into the game such as Tandred Proudmoore).
Not Likely: Death Knight, Demon Hunter, Druid, Evoker, Paladin.

Naga and Vrykul weaponry have been datamined from the Siren Isle.

Didn’t read through all the comments but I’m not sure if it was mentioned that Naga were slated to be the 4th Horde race before they pivoted to the Forsaken.

I’ve never heard anything about the Naga being an original option for the Horde in vanilla. Could you please share where you obtained that information?

I can’t believe the game is twenty something years old at this point and we still don’t have playable Naga and Ogres.

Mounting would be super easy with them too. They could just coil up on the saddle. Or even have their tail slightly drooping down.

Or Taunkas. And the bird people. I am 100% positive that those were inspired by the movie called The Dark Crystal. It seems like a lot of TBC was actually.

Naga seem like they would be a great new Allied Race. I am especially excited about the character customization options, which would include different kinds of fins, and unique hair options that might involve kelp in the hair, or making your hair out of snakes, octopus or squid tentacles, etc.

The ideal time to introduce them would be a short weekly questline where we get to find out 1) what happened to Queen Azshara after N’zoth was defeated and 2) a lore reason for why Horrific Visions are returning. Technically the Naga were once elves, so if we truly want to reunify the scattered elven tribes, we should include them in that effort. That said, they would be similar to the Forsaken or Death Knights in the sense that we won’t really trust them at first very much but we are willing to give them a chance to prove themselves, especially if they can help lend us their unique knowledge when it comes to the void and the magical energies of the sunwell/well of eternity.

Personally I have been stating that Xalatath trying to destroy Azeroth is enough to make Azshara come to its defense, since it is her world, not some upstarts.

Azshara’s MO was always been to throw herself at the strongest being around in hopes of getting power and\or attention out of it.

Just have her conclude that the most powerful “being” around is the Alliance.

I could see that being her motivation to resurface. And the next expansion is all about elves coming together, right? Would be a fitting time to add Naga to the playable roster.

I have been trying forever and a day to find info out there about it unsuccessfully but I swear it was a thing. It’s amazing how little information was archived back then.

I was in the original closed Beta and there were posts on the forums about it. It’s one reason why there are a lot of customization options for them.

If Naga were added, they’d probably get a humanoid bottom half transformation to make them work with mounts and just as an option in general. Though they’d still look like Naga in this form, just with legs.
I also think they’d be a neutral race. They don’t have ties to either faction and have longstanding enemies in both.

As for the leader? I prefer Azshara honestly. It’d be an Azshara move to have some of them join the factions as mercenary adventurers while simultaneously having others still invading parts of the world for te lulz.

I always thought they had a lot of customization options because Metzen wanted them playable and either couldn’t figure it out when the game launched or was laying down ground work for it. Like how Ogres went from their fat body appearance to the more strong build they have now.

Though on the topic of Ogres, I have heard that Blizzard originally planned on making them playable over the Darkspear but couldn’t get the female model pin downed and went with the trolls instead.

It’s interesting to think how the Horde could have started off differently with say the make up of Orcs, Tauren, Ogres, and Naga.

Naga would be Alliance. They’ve already accepted the Eredar back, and the last group of former Night Elves they rejected burned their tree down so they’ll probably think twice about doing that again.

Tyrande won’t be happy about it, but it’s high time the Alliance had some internal tension anyways.
