Unofficial Aquatic Ideas and Changes

As one of the few players who still care about pet battling, I feel nothing but boredom and disappointment as none of the new pets or even most of the old pets are any good, so I am on a journey to redesign as many battle pets as I could to hopefully prove pet battling could be revived under my leadership in the future assuming Blizzard hires me. Many new abilities, balance changes, and most importantly: many new pets! This list will be very long, unsurprisingly!

Note: I will continue to update the list anytime.

New Abilities:

Aquatic:

  • Acid Globules hit each enemy thrice.
  • Aquatic versions of Hiss, Slither, and Tail Smash.
  • A second version of Acid Rain (labelled with *) with polluted green visuals and is the opposite of Cleansing Rain (duration of damage over time effects raised by 1 round).
  • Best Frenzies is similar to Stampede.
  • Bubble Blow, Clam Barrage, and Fish Barrage are all barrage abilities.
  • Contagion poisons and deals damage over time to the enemy team.
  • Fishes of the School is similar to Sons of the Flame.
  • Sand Dollars hits each enemy once (same tier as the stronger version of Tidal Wave).
  • Scuttle is similar to Furious Surge.
  • Skip is the aquatic version of Leap.
  • Sonar is the aquatic version of Sniff Out.
  • Spiny Scales is a damage reduction/thorns ability.
  • Splash deals split AoE damage and Whirling Water is similar but stronger with a 3 round cooldown.
  • Stronger version of Tidal Wave with a 3 round cooldown.
  • Thundertongue deals additional damage if the user is struck first.
  • Toxin Injection hits hard and poisons for 2 rounds.
  • Wave Crash hits hard and has a chance to stun.
  • Weaker version of Squeeze.
  • Whip Splash is similar to the new Haymaker.

Beast:

  • Beast versions of Bad Breath, Powerball, and Sniff Out.
  • Beast version of Steady Snap.
  • Beast versions of Tongue Lash and Tongue Whip.
  • Blind Eye has a 50% chance to blind the enemy by 50% for 1 round with both a weaker and stronger version.
  • Constrict is the beast version of Squeeze with both a weaker and stronger version.
  • Deep Wounds is the same as Black Claw.
  • Fracturing Bite lowers the enemy’s speed and damage by 50% for 1 round with a 1 round cooldown.
  • Great Flay bleeds and deals damage over time to the enemy team.
  • Paralyzing Sting slows down the enemy for 4 rounds.
  • Slither is similar to Furious Surge.
  • Spines is a damage reduction/thorns ability.

Critter:

  • Belly Slide is the same as Powerball with a different animation (the other Belly Slide is removed).
  • Critter versions of Burrow, Burrow, Lick, and spines.
  • Stronger version of Sneak Attack with a 50% hit chance, but always hits if the enemy is blinded.

Dragonkin:

  • Chilling Winds (which replaces Call Blizzard) is similar to Scorched Earth, but chilly as the name suggests and all pets are chilled instead of burning.
  • Frost Fever is the dragonkin equivalent of Deep Freeze.
  • Pestilence poisons and deals damage over time to the enemy team.
  • Sands of Time is the dragonkin variant of Sandstorm.

Elemental:

  • Dust Storm is the elemental variant of Sandstorm.
  • Lightning Sweep deals additional damage if the user is struck first.
  • Lighting Whip deals split AoE damage and force swaps the enemy pet.
  • Lightning Whiplash hits hard and stuns the user.
  • Sand Blast has a 50% chance to blind the enemy by 50% for 1 round with both a weaker and stronger version.

Flying:

  • Eye Gouge hits hard and blinds the enemy by 100% for 1 round.
  • Eye Poke (weaker) damages and blinds the enemy by 50% for 2 rounds.
  • Eye Poke (stronger) hits hard and has a 50% chance of blinding the enemy by 50% for 1 round.
  • Quack is similar to Squawk and Cluck.
  • Shriek (including the dragonkin version) damages and slows down the enemy team.

Humanoid:

  • Riposte deals additional damage if the user is struck first.
  • Slice and Dice hits 4 times and has a stronger version with a 1 round cooldown.
  • Weaker version of Body Slam with no cooldown.

Magic:

  • Call of the Void is one of the many variants of Sons of the Flame.
  • Oblivion damages the enemy team (not split) and destroys all objects.
  • Psychic Scream damages/slows down the enemy team.
  • Tentacle Spikes is a damage reduction/thorns abilities with a weaker version (level 2) and a stronger version (level 15).
  • Tentacle Stabbings poisons and deals damage over time to the enemy team.
  • Void-Induced Spite deals double damage if the user has lower health.
  • Void Tendrils is a minion summoning ability.
  • Weaker version of Clean Up with no cooldown.

Mechanical:

  • Nuts and Bolts is a barrage ability.

Undead:

  • Call Darkness renamed to Ritual of Shadow and changed to undead.

Other:

  • Asphyxiate, Belly Flop, Fish Bone, Hex, Kelp Wrap, Shiny Pearl, and Void Coils are stuns.
  • Blood Frenzy is the same as Focus.
  • Bubble Trap stuns the enemy for 2 rounds, but the bubble pops after taking damage.
  • Chum blinds the enemy for 1 round.
  • Embrace the Void is the void version of Unholy Ascension.
  • Greed (50% critical strike chance for 5 rounds) and Lucky Coin (team 50% accuracy and 25% critical strike chance for 4 rounds) are split from Need Before Greed (removed).
  • Looming Fog heals the user’s team and changes the weather to Fog, during which healing is raised by 25%, but the accuracy is lowered by 10%.
  • Mojo heals and clears all buffs and debuffs.
  • Refreshing Brew and Healing Brew are palette swaps of Renewing Mists and Healing Wave Respectively.
  • Shimmer and Void Slip are visually different from Deflection.
  • Somber Dance, Sun Dance, and Time Warp are team speed buffs.
  • Vampiric Aura is the same as Aura of Gonk.
  • Void Gaze slows down the enemy team by 25% for 9 rounds.

Balance Changes:

Aquatic:

  • All brew abilities changed to aquatic.
  • Blood in the Water changed to a finisher similar to Impale.
  • Bubble Blast no longer has a cooldown and the damage ramps up instead.
  • Carpnado damage buffed, destroys all objects, and now has fish flop everywhere (Deluge is the version without the fish).
  • Croak cooldown lowered and now slows down the enemy instead.
  • Dreadful Breath changed to aquatic and no longer lasts 3 rounds nor deals additional damage during rain (because of the 25% aquatic damage bonus during rain).
  • Explosive Brew damage increased and stuns but has a 5 round cooldown.
  • Geyser changed to aquatic.
  • Gnash no longer bleeds and instead deals additional damage if the user goes first.
  • Inebriate now blinds the enemy for 1 round with a 3 round cooldown.
  • First Croak changed to hit hard and increases damage done for 3 rounds with a 5 round cooldown.
  • Heat Up changed to aquatic.
  • Spiny Carapace changed to a damage reduction/thorns ability.
  • Steam Vent now burns and deals damage over time.
  • Swallow You Whole no longer deals double damage if the enemy has less than 25% health.
  • Toxic Skin now deals aquatic damage instead.

Beast:

  • Maul changed to a finisher similar to Impale.
  • Impale’s damage and cooldown raised.
  • Rake and Face Bite now lower the enemy’s speed and damage by 50% for 1 round with a 1 round cooldown.
  • Shell Armor duration raised by 1 round.
  • Tail Smash damage and cooldown increased.
  • Vengeance is now similar to Early Advantage (changed to magic) instead.

Critter:

  • Locust Swarm no longer has a cooldown and increases damage done by 10% on first use.

Dragonkin:

  • Frost Breath now chills and deals damage over time.
  • Plague Breath now poisons and deals damage over time.
  • Spiked Skin damage resistance and damage raised, but the cooldown is lowered to 3 rounds.
  • Starfall now deals additional damage during moonlight.

Elemental:

  • Blizzard (weather) is now similar to Scorched Earth but chilly, all active pets are chilled instead of burning and no longer has an elemental damage bonus.
  • Paralyzing Shock cooldown lowered and now has a chance to stun instead.

Flying:

  • Egg Barrage changed to flying.
  • Furious Flapping no longer has a cooldown and instead deals additional damage if the user goes first.

Humanoid:

  • Mighty Charge changed to be a visually different Holy Charge (just boring otherwise).

Magic:

  • Clean Up now deals non-split team damage instead.
  • Light no longer deals double damage on blinded enemies and instead hits hard and has a 50% chance of blinding the enemy by 50% for 1 round.
  • Tentacle Stab now deals damage instantly, no longer “confuses” the enemy, and lasts 5 rounds.

  • Aged Yolk and Sear Magic now heal, but the cooldown is raised to 4 rounds.
  • All double damage boost abilities last 1 round with a 1 round cooldown (I only listed this due to double damage boost abilities being inconsistently balanced).
  • Cute as a Button is now like Deflection.
  • Cute Face and Frolic is now a 100% dodge for 1 round with a 4 round cooldown.
  • Dark Rebirth, Rebirth, and Survival now always go first.
  • Stench now blinds the enemy for 1 round instead.

Some entries are still unfinished, so I may need help filling in the blanks. Constructive criticism is helpful. Granted, some pets do have extra abilities for good reason: some movesets would feel incomplete (Rascal-Bot would lose Armageddon otherwise). Also a great way to include more underused abilities I want.

Also, the Gamma Crab and Gamma Hydra are two of my favorite original monster designs because both are inspired by the Nuclear Terror, a mini boss in Terraria Calamity mod inspired by the Horror in Nuclear Throne. The Gamma Hydra in particular is inspired by the Gamma Heart, a minion summoning weapon dropped by the Nuclear Terror.
