Unlocking Old Naxxramas....worth it?

So I took a break for a few years, stopped at just a little ways into Legion. When I started Legions, right before I took my break, I stopped Legion and decided I wanted to go back and do all I could from Vanilla through WoD. I started in 2006, back when we bought CD’s for expansions :slight_smile:

So that’s taken a lot of time, but using various addons I can really see all the things I missed, achievements, hidden quests, etc.

Anyways, one fo those things I didn’t really “fill out” was my blacksmithing. My main toon is still the one I started back in 2006, with mining.

So started getting sad about all the recipes I never gathered, and started looking around where to obtain them. And lots of them up through WoD are gone. But many have been brough back, but with the catches, one of them being getting access to Old Nax…

So I looked up and read through the guide for getting access, and Holy Toledo, I felt like I was back in college. Thats’ really a lot to go through, but I think I’m willing to do it. I was relieved the other night, realized that I had seemed to have discarded my original Argent Dawn Commision, but got it back by asking an NPC when I was up in that area.

So. I think I might embark on this pretty complicated looking quest to get access to old Nax, and I read some of the posts about it, just wondering if a lot of people have done it, and did they think it was worth it. Looking through my blacksmithing stuff I see a LOT of stuff I want, some of it I’ll never get, but some can be had.

Just see the comments on wowhead with a list of the items needed at each step and take that grocery list to the AH. Saves the back n forth. Also if you do not have the butcher’s toy, make friend with someone who has it! You have to unlock old Scholo to move on to old Naxx is all.

That darn thing has eluded me for years! I got old naxx and Schoolmance from a friend. But that requirement is BS. Some of us have killed that mob 50 times and never seen it drop.

It is one of the biggest gold making lockouts in the game still. Just don’t clear kt or the harvester to make it time efficient.

Couple toys and a mount it’s pretty cool to have unlocked imo.

Considering you can farm out t3 if you do unlock it, I’d say its very much worth it.

Getting a +1 to my mount collection is always worth it to me.

I tried to farm the toy in Scholo about a dozen times on various alts at the end of DF, but the toy never dropped. I think I read the AG commission wasn’t needed? Anyway it’s been a year since i last tried.

Zul’Garub has a similar secret unlock for secret recipes but much less ardrous. I abandoned both for now.

It’s not really unlocking old Naxx. It’s unlocking a vendor that lets you get Tier 3 for comically exorbitant costs, and some old crafting recipes as well as a new mount and some toys?

Yeah, it’s a pain in the butt, but I just got my dreadnaught shoulders for my Paladin I’ve wanted since MoP introduced the BMAH. Got chest, helm, gloves from there already, for way cheaper than the almost million gold it would’ve cost for them. So my transmog is pretty much done.

Depends how much you want to fill out your smything and get Tier 3.

Port to Northrend Dal, fly to Naxx, enter and use the thingy to exit in EPL? Is it really faster? Like you timed it or something? Uh, learn something everyday.

Especially when Valiance + Hellhounds + Scythe= Hail Herne, your new Horse of Death.

I unlocked all the mac stuff and then learned I couldn’t craft the old nax sets unless I had collected an original full set back in day. Very disappointed.

Thanks for all the responses. I’ve run Scholo a couple of times, no drop for the , I tthink what I’ll do is not obssess about it, making put it on a reminder to run Scholo a couple of times a week. Luckily you can run through there pretty fast, probably takes longer to get there than running the instance.

Krastinov’s Bag of Horrors…Bind on pickup. I can only imagine what that would go for on AH if you could farm it.

It’s a lesson I should have learned 15 years ago…get all the crafting recipes you can when a expac is ongoing, as they might wind up lost in time and become unobtainable. I do appear to have most blacksmithing and cooking from WoLK and MoP as I spent a lot of time doing “completionist” work on those back before I quit last time.

I did run the current Nax last night. I’ve been running a lot of the old Dungeons and Raids and it’s amazing how much you forget. On several of them I kept thinking “did I ever do this before?”, but I see from my addons that I have, and usually I hit one area and think “oh yeah, I do remember this”.

Thanks again, as stated, I think I’m going to come up with a list of things I want to get done and create a schedule, and running Sholo for that toy is just going to have to be part of a larger strategy.

Do you just need someone with the toy to use it so they ghost is visible in scholo?

This. It’s not Old Naxx, it’s Old Scholomance and tier 3 via expensive roundabout means.

It takes about 1.5 minutes when coming from Stormwind to use that way. Twilight Highlands port takes like 2.5 mins (Dragonflying from TH also requires ascending, where as Dal to Naxx is almost completely descent, so you can semi-AFK with that one). Obviously paladins with a class hall or DKs will be quicker, but just in the general use. I haven’t tested it, but I am going to assume taking the port to Isle of Quel’Danas and taking the fp is a lot longer than either of them.
