Unlocking of expansion content? (Game design talk with Rob Pardo and Jeff Kaplan from 2005)

I was watching old developer commentary on game design and Rob Pardo brought up the aspect of a community experience of unlocking expansion content as a server-wide effort.

I began thinking about how crazy of an event that would be if it was done in today’s game environment. It’s such an interesting concept. (which was replaced by server-wide events instead of community efforts)

if it was like the classic remade for the aq effort it would be done in less then 24hr
they would need to time gate it to an extent so its not completed in a day
