So boosting to renown 40 does nothing to unlock all of the dailies in Korthia on alts because the 9.1 campaign requires you to do the 9.0 one. You need the 9.1 mostly done before all of the dailies are unlock.
Yeah Ion claimed they learn their lesson on alt game play but Ion did the exact opposite of what he said he would do.

You do not need 9.0 campaign to start the 9.1
What you need is renown.
Specifically renown 44 to start the first chapter.
Renown is literally thrown at you for doing almost any content.
Given that 9.1 IS still the current content, obviously you need to finish the chain in order to unlock the current end game zone, Korthia.
You do need to complete the 9.0 story to unlock the second chapter of Korthia. Trust me I did it 5 times already.
my solution was to simply refuse to do korthia on alts
and eventually stop playing them altogether.
for the first time in the history of the many years I’ve been playing - I barely log in anymore other than to raid.
I unlocked korthia before I even touched the night fae campaign on my mage alt. it unlocked after i stated i bla bla seen this for the 9.0 stuff. Though you are correct about needing to do the story missions to get all the dailies.
I don’t even think you need this.
The IMPORTANT THING to do, is that once you go to Oribos and start turning in “required” quests. WALK AWAY once you turn one of them in … and THEN talk to the quest giver again.
What I’ve found is the ability to skip portions of the quest chain are often locked and you need to “reset” where the NPC is on their rails.
Turn in your quest. Close the quest-interface, and WALK AWAY FROM THEM. Go all the way to the inner ring if you must. And THEN go back to them.
You will now get the “I’ve already done this part, I want to skip ahead” dialogue.
I’ve done this 8+ times.
Seems like par for the course 
One of the dailies has a chance to reward Korthite Crystals. It’s the easiest way to farm them. On a good day, I can get about 20 Crystals for about 30mins of logging in and out on alts.
It’s worth it just for that.
Huh? You can just just the 40 renown thing while level 50, that puts you at 50-60 renown when you cap. Then is very straight forward skip, grab soulbinds, skip, skip and you get plopped straight into Korthia in like 10 minutes.
Haven’t done the Korthia unlock chapters more than once.
Yep. Had to do the entire venthyr campaign for the 4th(?) time just so I could unlock korthia’s chapter 2 just so I could learn how to make a vestige or origins… riveting content, really…
Yeah I just checked-- and my Mechagnome alt is Renown THREE. lol
And he’s farming that Korthia daily for me.
It has NOTHING to do with your Renown level. You just have to get the NPC in Oribos to a state where he’ll let you skip. Walk away, log out… whatever you have to do. But it has nothing to do with your Renown level.
You are wrong and right at the same time . You can unlock 3 quests daily just using the “skips” 9.1.5 brought but you cant unlock the 2 other daily quests (mostly for the mog once you have the full mog it gives random rep/anima) . To unlock the 2 hidden quests you must to the 3rd campain quest of 9.1.5 which cannot be done unless you complete the 9.0 fully 
All they said was you didn’t need to do the campaign to get your renown to 80.
…it’s one (or two, at most) extra dailies. If you feel personally insulted by Ion over something like that, I’m not sure what to tell you.
Hate to break it to you, but skipping the story was the original plan, then Blizz decided they had a better solution which really only made it easier for Raiders and Mythic+ players to get their alts viable quicker while those who do Korthia u still have to jump through hoops.
I’ve done each of the 9.0 campaigns at least once each, some twice, now I want to get alts to Korthia and have them have access to it’s campaign.
If you want to do korthia story fully…yes you need the covenant.
No covenant…you won’t see the story starting at finding Primus’ sigil (and this the Primus). Chapter 3 I want to say.
If not a deal breaker not seeing that…no covenant needed. Here enters the great question of are you making an alt…or another main.
Me…the primus’s sigil and the primus rots on alts lol. I make alts. I don’t even spam korthia hardcore on them lol.
Never will primus be found as when 9.2 hits…he will jsut be there. Like jaina was jsut there in BFA. and Illidan was just there for argus if one had no work for it. Hell if one never did azuna, or rolled a DH, you’d never know he was taken captive to be freed in the first place.
Renown…needs no covenant run. In terms of time to get the renown in theory it is not even efficient. Get a solid run of 250’s slumming it in heroic you can sapm some heroic dungeon for easy clears really. renown on final boss.
I ahve a renown 80 rogue who is at chapter 2/3 for necrolords. Chapters done since was bored /dancing waiting for pvp pops really.
It really helps to get that insta-40 from the vendor on fresh covenant choice.
If doing a TOF run…you i fact make this vendor your first stop after covenant pickup. 65 to 69 renown has been possible for me even with me going ToF at say level 54/55.
They didn’t even include a skip to the npc that receives relic currency, I had to delete all the relic related items from my alts because i couldn’t deposit those in the npc.
Some would say well run the quests lol.
BUt I see your way. After about 8 times i went nah…they really should have put this in the skip.
PLayer skill/gear depending some of those 3 “bosses” for the staff parts are a pita. YOU spend a good chunk of time hoping someone shows up to help.
Something something buy 30K+ of crafted 200’s. 30K to beat 3 chars and then dump the gear asap. Not what I call good long term investment.
I did a post and some people said “run the 9 questline”, i liked when MoP/WoD allow me to play alts so i can do random bgs with each class, now there’s too many chores.
And Korthia is the worse reward design, sometimes with my main i want anima not relics but all the dailies rewards are relics and when i wanted relics the rewards were anima… RNG in top of RNG, if they bring a better way to reward the player that zone could be better.
They had to fix it for 9.1.5 because of their own awful rng design around the reputation progress, just create dailies like quest on which you pick your reward (leveling quest on which you pick your weapon or piece).
That is another thing that I dread every time I go to Korthia, that relic quest chain, doing it on every single alt eventually demotivates you.
