I was looking forward to questing along side my brother who is finally on his winter break… low and behold Blizzard has the servers LOCKED so no new players can create a character on the server I play on… Isn’t this the complete Opposite of what a video game is about? Barring new players from playing the game for what reason??.. I’d personally prefer a queue over not being able to play the game at all. Come on blizzard; It’s Christmas break, unlock the servers. (Grobbulus especially)

We’ve known about servers being locked for a long time now…
In the future, if you plan on playing with your friends and family, I’d suggest having other options in mind. For example, there’s a very dangerous icy road the separates me and my family during the cold seasons, and when the holidays roll around, I don’t bet and bank on the roads being open because they’re often not. I always make alternative plans so I’m not “blindsided” by circumstances that are easy to predict.
If you roll new characters on a different realm, you can still play with your friends/family, and you could potentially transfer those characters to your main realm in the future when population distribution isn’t such a big problem. I’d also suggest creating a character (even if you don’t intend to play it) on realms where you may want to potentially play in the future. I’ve made a copy of my main character(s) on a large handful of realms not only to reserve my name, but to have my hoof in the door if those servers ever become locked.
I would argue that making it more difficult for players to interact with one another by dividing them up across layers is the opposite of what the game is about. I don’t see how locking the realms to maintain a healthy population is somehow antithetical to WoW’s experience, especially when giant realms cause so many problems.
No one is barred from playing the game because of realm locks. You have access to plenty of realms that you can roll on and play.

- The forums were spammed constantly day and night when we had queues with people calling the situation “unacceptable”. Even one of Blizzard’s own community council members made an emotional, melodramatic blog post about it and it actually got a response from the WoW team! The blue post explained that this situation has no technological solution, and our resident armchair server engineer proceeded to tell them “I wOrK iN tHe InDuStRy AnD yOu’Re WrOnG” and proceeded to provide absolutely no evidence or ideas for possible workarounds.
So the WoW team has decided to end mega servers and never have to deal with petulant children trying to school literal industry experts again.
Sorry, but the people have spoken, and queue times are apparently a deal breaker for people who make a conscious decision to play on the most grotesquely overpopulated realms.

There are plenty of other servers for you and your brother to enjoy. Nobody is “barring new players from playing”.
I’d much rather deal with locked servers than the queue monster again. The fact you claim you’d prefer them goes to show you weren’t here to suffer through them.
Something tells me you’d be one of the first people running to the forums screaming murder if they were still a thing.
Reroll or have him pay for a server transfer to a realm where you both can play.

you and your brother are not being barred from playing the game. you pay your 15 bucks to have access to play the game online. but not direct access to the servers you like. if you wanna level with him make it on a different server. skyfury seems great from what i have heard.
further more the servers have been locked for a LONG time. this is not a new phenomenon. please move on. and if i’m not mistaken Benediction has been locked since what phase 3 of TBCC? i don’t feel bad that he can’t play on your server. but you can make and level with him on another server. Best of luck.
No. Unless you rp, you can stay away from grobbulus. Megaserver culture and permanent layers are a huge detriment to rp, Keep grobbulus locked until the only players left are rpers, then it can open again. In the meantime, rpers can hang out on bloodsail (not a pvp server, i know, but its all you got otherwise)

Some ppl still support lockdowns, they like their little bubbles. Rather than making the powers to be to actually do things properly for the freedom of all.
This isn’t one of your japanese cartoons bro. It’s not that people “like their little bubbles” it’s that these servers are massive and overpopulated already if they were to be unlocked there would be huge wait times to log in. The world doesn’t revolve around you, grow up and take responsibility for your failings.
lol touched a nerve of someone who has been coddled their whole life and incapable of critical thinking. That’s fine. Since further explaination is needed for you, it’s simple. The technology and developer tools are there to have higher to no caps and no lag! Can you believe it? Maybe not you, but others can. Personally, I prefer to have the most out of my sub, and not confined to limitations because this company prefers to maximize profits over player enjoyment. They still haven’t learned that you need the latter for the former.
Will there be a pop spike come Ulduar? Sure, but it’ll quickly die off, and by that time it’ll be too late, just like it has happened before. All the while, it can be avoided. You do you though, enjoy your #bubblelyfe.

The queue was the first time in all the years I’ve played wow I had to do the remote login thing to try to put myself in queue when I was at work. On the times I couldn’t get it to work, I had to ask my wife to log me in.
It was beyond stupid.
To have someone say something like that just goes to show how out of touch they are and clearly no idea what the hell they’re talking about.

so asinine that you don’t know what was going on my server and giving you context as to how bad benediction got. but its asinine your numbers were under telling the issue with benediction. a lot isn’t even a good way to describe what you said. but its asinine right? right??? oh wait, its not. it was damn near double what skyhold was having to deal with. at minimum each day it was 8 hours on a good day. 14 hours thats 840 minutes. but that is asinine right? isn’t your server dying? like literally dying right before your eyes now? your server has little hope of surviving. if i were you’d be looking to move off skyhold but i hate server transfers so you may want to find a good medium pop server to hop to.

Since when is it the rest of the players to make accommodations to the rest of the people wanting to come to a server? are we supposed to roll out the red carpet for someone we don’t know? oh right i do not care who you are, where you are from what you’ve done irl or in game. its not our responsibility to make the game accessible to everyone. the ToS clearly states you pay your 15 bucks a month you have access to the game. it on the other hand in no shape way or form says you get to get to determine where you get to play. if blizzard shut benediction down tomorrow i’d figure out where i would go. its not a hard concept. they give you access to the game. if they don’t want new players on the server you should respect that because they see that server as being over populated. btw, i said it multiple times on these forums but you like to try and pick a fight with me and thats fine i’ll throw down. but I would have ZERO issues with everyone joining Benedition Faerlina Grobb or whatever server they wanted to. but these servers cannot handle it, further more negatively impacting the native players of those servers unfair to us. and blizzard has shown an unwillingness to provide better servers or provide a reasonable solution for everyone to select the servers they want. they need to stop treating these as just individual servers. and make benediction a cluster of servers same with faerlina and any other locked server or server that is bordering on being at capacity and with in range of being locked if a servers pop continues to grow add another server to the cluster. treat it as a raid array of servers. that way one server doesn’t melt. hell benediction has three layers again after players complained enough yet 30 seconds between actions taking place during the peak hours. but you want to add more to that. but its me who should leave right? because i’m that player that is causing that 30 second between actions. or how about you stop blaming people and start taking a crap on blizzard for their shoddy server structures.
