They fired almost all the communication team so I doubt they even realize there is a problem right now. All they see if new subs which means it’s all working, but wait until half these subs quit because they can’t play them they will fix it but it will be too late then.
Layers reduce the network bandwidth load by creating small virtual group. So 10 players need to send their info to one another. Thats 10x10. Vs 2 groups of 5 players each. Thats 5x5x2.
The solution is to remove the idea of realms, make a few mega servers which can pool their resource for maximum capacity. The real solution is to add hardware to support the load variation and be able to scale on a whim. They have a bunch of datacenters but they are probably outdated, poorly optimized for monetary reasons and are unable to quickly expand.
Layers were implemented because the classic game world was designed for around 3k simultaneous players, not the 15k that the current servers support. It was only so the zones wouldn’t be so overcrowded to the point of them being unplayable.
Adding more layers isn’t going to do anything about your que times.
Heres a post for some good information on what is causing the AH lag and its due more to people running poorly optimized ah addons. Should give it a read to understand the problem at hand and what blizzard has already done to help alleviate the issue.
You described exactly why more layers would fix queue times, but you play retail so you think shards = layers and don’t know what you’re talking about.
Yeah I’ve read it. Until they release the lowest-buyout-first that they are referring to, it’s not fixed. For now the AH is actually worse than it used to be because of the live testing that they are running.
Layers don’t magically make the server hardware better, they can only handle so many players. Layering only sections players off so they’re not crammed into the same space.
When your op contains 0 information about what you mean by optimize then you will get replies that dont relate to your issue. But as others have pointed out: layers dont increase server capacity.
Benedition is 1 “server,” but do you actually think it’s 1 server? It’s not. They need to scale up and stop whatever social experiment they are trying.
People think a “server” is 1 tower rack on Bobby’s yacht. It’s dozens or hundreds of virtualized machines. This is how the world works today, everything scales. Blizzard is choosing to not scale for whatever reason and they need to explain themselves.
From what I understand it is one server…Someone on layer 1 can invite and talk with another person that is on layer 4 because they are on the same server.
With blade servers etc you can have multiple servers communicating with each other and keep increasing the hardware.
people in this thread need to realize that “server” and “realm” are two different things. You’re on one realm, but many interconnected servers can be driving it
maybe the bottleneck is somewhere else in the system its hard to know without specifics
So blizz just needs to create 20 different layers? That sounds like a mess in itself…having horde dominating 12 of the layers and alliance on the other 8…yelling for invites for the dominated faction layer…i dont think so
