I don’t know if it was after some big patch or something, but I suddenly realized there’s a number under the calendar icon by my minimap.

Mouseover labels it “AddOns”.

However, I can’t figure out what it’s supposed to be counting. I have far more addons than that number has ever depicted. If I left-click on it, a list of that number of addons appears. But I don’t know why that set is selected. There seems to be nothing they have in common other than I do, indeed, have those addons installed.

Does anyone know what this is supposed to be?

It’s Blizzard’s Addon Compartment. Addons can add “themselves” to the compartment like they used to add minimap buttons (or they can have both yay). An attempt to wrangle the mess if every addon uses it instead of the buttons.

Although I really wish I could turn it off. I turn off all minimap buttons already. Less than 10% of my addons are using the compartment, so it’s not particularly useful to me even if I’d chosen it.

Ah well, at least the mystery is gone now. Thanks again!
