Unintended Bear and Cat Forms (Part 1)

If there is nothing prestige in the game it dilutes the experience for everything and for everyone. What incentive is there for anyone to resub at any specific time if they can just get everything later down the line? Would it even be worth getting since just literally anyone can get it… Why even play the game when new stuff comes out when you can never get anything truly unique?

Your idea of just letting anyone get anything at anytime, devalues everything ever done, or ever will be done. Take the feldrake tcg mount they gave everyone, when is the last time you saw anyone using it? Its value went to completely useless, and that will happen to literally anything everyone just has access to easily getting it.

Also Blizzard advertised those things as never returning, bringing back the aotc mount is also a huge mistake. They should have altered it in some way like they did the astral cloud serpent for mop remix. Same with mt Druid form, the most they should do is offer a new different color that differentiates from the originals, so people get the form and the value of the originals remain.

They just need to make it so expansions routinely offer newer and cooler challenges and rewards, don’t just hand everyone out the old stuff.

It sucks to miss out on stuff, but it is actually a benefit to know down the line you can earn things that truly matter and are unique. Look how much people care about these 10 year old things, you can end up with things just like this down the line, and know that they’ll preserve that. That is a lot better than getting a quick satisfaction, and destroying any chance at believing blizzard when they say this will never come back.

You already see how awesome it is to earn those cool unique things by how desperate people are to get them, and they are desperate because they can’t get them. It would be a massive mistake to reintroduce the originals in any way.

Hope new cool things get introduced that you can earn going forward, stop trying to advocate robbing people that rightfully got it when it was current.

My excitement for Legion Remix was hoping for Mage Tower 2.0, but… nope.

When Legion was live I was playing a BM Hunter (which I still main), and because of the Artifact weapons being Spec-locked, and only ever mogging bows, there was no reason for me to bother with the Mage Tower.

I was grateful when they opened up Artifact skins to all specs per class.

Farming bronze isn’t feeding the same part of my brain, sadly, especially since I play other classes on alts now.

It’s so rare to even see Sparkle Kitty now.

Prestige comes from doing it while its current and tuned to that level, gear and so on. Doing it later, like many did with MT during Antorus, is not prestige and people were well aware of this even back then.

This is why AOTC and CE mounts were introduce and now we must swallow Ion telling us that AOTC isn’t challenging and that everyone deserves it after the fact but not MT? It makes no sense.

To further compound this contradiction “prestige” in a video game especially in PVE content outside of the world race and Hall of Fame are more or less non-existent. Who are you competing against if not yourself in the game? You’re not racing, you’re not fighting another player. You are proving your own skill versus a computer and many people do not do it when its current like with Mage Tower appearances but when it becomes easier like MT did with Antorus release.

And this is the crux of the counter argument. You are arguing that it is good for the health of the game and its growth to have limited time exclusive rewards you can’t go back and get ever no matter what. This has statistically been proven not successful for games that get old because new players will see something they like, want to earn it when they get the game only to never get the game or quit upon learning they can’t.

It has been 10 years roughly since Legion and that means a lot of the people who played then no longer play both because of the two expansions right after Legion (BFA and SL) but also because they have gotten older and their lives may have changed.

All this does is create more FOMO by telling people they need to be current with each expansion for shiny rewards rather than because the expansion is actually worth playing. This is in fact how an old game fails to retain players and gain new players.

This also no longer really works as Blizzard has put out a survey asking about people’s feelings on classic collections applying to Retail which would invalidate not only what they said when they announced classic originally but the idea that limited-time helps the success of the game given how many people would flock immediately to paying a sub to collect stuff they missed out in the past + the growth of new players.

FOMO has existed in wow since its inception, and has done just fine, trying to use it to fearmonger “the end of the game” because you cant have a special oo shiny thing isnt gonna win you any brownie points.

Anyone that wasnt playing during legion for whatever reason missed out, and thats the end of the story, crying about it every chance you get isn’t gonna make a difference, especially with how hard blizzard has made there stance on the situation.

FOMO never existed in classic wow. What was removed in classic wow during classic wow? Almost nothing from my recollection of 20 years ago. The first time FOMO started to show up wasn’t until Wrath when they announced they’d be removing Vanilla Naxx for Wrath Naxx much to the dismay of almost everyone.

And then Cata went further and on and on. So this is a silly argument to make.

As Blizzard has shown time and time again they’ll say one thing and then change their minds. The idea they never change their minds is a fantasy you created because you don’t have the courage to admit you want them to remain limited time so people can envy you for having them as if that is good for the health of the game!

Not true, Holiday Mounts & Gladiator Mounts at a min.

doesn’t mean it should, a bad things existing for a long time is not a justification for it’s continued existence.

I have MT appearances, and yes, you are correct, if they didnt play, then no, they shouldnt have them, i have 0 fear in gate keeping something that you had to be around for, go ahead and hate me for it

I can relate to this. Only me being disabled, my hands just couldn’t react fast enough. Time has been unkind in that regard. I’d absolutely love having a way to get them. These nearly 10 year old forms shouldn’t be this gatekept.

One of these days, WoW will cease to exist. They’ll close down the servers and no one will be able to access their characters, their collectables and whatever else.
When that happens, will the people who have their ‘exclusive’ items go “Well, at least I got that MT bear!” No. Most likely they’ll be busy focused on whatever other game that they’re going to play.
So why gatekeep when it doesn’t affect you? It doesn’t affect the gameplay to let people have the MT appearances. A majority of players who have some, myself included, WANT people to have cool items! The people who are complaining about not letting items that haven’t been available for 10+ years be available again, why? There is no prestige, this is World of Warcraft. It affects nothing in real life, except for a person’s happiness. I think the world could use a little more of that. So I hope that Blizzard changes their mind and lets us have a way to get these appearances again.

That’s your opinion, not everyone’s.

The only time I notice things other players have is when I like how they look.

I don’t give a kiss from Elune how they acquired them, other than how I can get it too, because, again, for me, it’s the esthetic. I like how it looks.

I don’t care how rare a thing is, and have zero drive to show-off any hard-won acquisitions to other players because my ego doesn’t care.

Back pre-Cata I did the Winterspring Frostsaber grind on two characters, and stopped using it after a few months because I’d moved on to another mount I felt was prettier at the time.

Same with the TLPD, which I semi-accidentally got one day while flying around Storm Peaks hoping Skoll would spawn and I could tame him. It is literally the only time I’ve ever seen the TLPD spawn. Love that I have it, mostly because it felt good in the moment to even see it, (and it added to my mount count when I eventually got the Lord of the Reins achievement and the gorgeous Heavenly Azure Cloud Serpent which I love using because I like how it looks), yet I never use the TLPD because I just don’t like it’s look/animations, and don’t give a toss that it’s rare, or if Blizz made it purchasable at the Trading Post.

Gonna chime in here as someone who got pretty much all the items I wanted from it.

  1. Bring the mage tower back. Literally no one is actually asking you to give people these items for free. I for one loved trying to beat the challenges and was sorry to see it and the rewards disappear, only to reappear with less-interesting models later on, and a flat “nope, you think you want it but you don’t.” from Blizz about the old ones returning for people who didn’t make it in time.
  2. Taking away the use of the skins at least in Remix alone was a giant L move, since it was your dumb mistake that led to all of this. At least letting people play with the skins for the event since y’all effed up and let them be temporarily available would at least have been a decent compromise. This is a middle finger in the face of everyone that was so excited to play with them. Enjoy your lost good faith and $$.

But really, the real answer here is: BRING. THE OG MAGE TOWER. BACK. Let people EARN those weapons and skins. Let people play the mini solo game that they missed and feel that joy of winning and getting the appearance. It’s not hard to set that up these days so that it’s properly challenging and not a cheese fest. That’s all anyone wants. And frankly, that should be fine for everyone, including all of you self-important diehard FOMO enthusiasts.

Remember: Blizzard didn’t exactly announce that those MT appearances would be unobtainable right when the MT was released. They decided to wait on that info until very little time was left in the expansion. That was bad form all the way around. Then the entire system was so buggy that even if you went in with good gear and did everything right, you’d often get booted right back out. Combine that with the limited availability of the MT’s uptime, and it was a cluster fk from the beginning. Mage Tower was fun. Dealing with the wait time and crunching into that short time knowing that you’d probably lose due to some broken mechanic was hell. Trust me. I was there 10 years ago.

For those of you self-righteously declaring “Wull yuh shudda played or got gud, Mmhmm.” I had diehard endgame player friends in the hospital, deployed, and taking care of dying parents at the time Legion’s last patch was running full steam. With the limited uptime and bugginess of the system, these people never stood a chance, and were doubly pissed when they found out late in the game that the system was being removed entirely. Tell me. Why are you more deserving of your important prestige than these people?

Legion was 10 years ago. You’re old. So am I. Let it go. Neither of us are special because of our MT skins. No one’s going to think you’re that awesome just because you have something they don’t. It feels bad. The attitude is gross. No one likes a sore winner. Let others enjoy the game instead of being Grumpy Boomer Uncle with all of this “when I was your age” bs. /endrant

Also who still uses their MT skins (Druids do not apply you guys barely have any options so I get it you will get whatever you get and lets be honest you guys probably have the coolest ones too XD)

The outlaw rogue rapiers are incredible.

Yep, but let’s not compare the difficulty of a gladiator mount to an end expansion patch MT challenge.

These were participation rewards. The PVP season mounts are a more comparable option, and they’re available for one token.

I’d argue those are quite different scenarios.

Scarab Lord was extremely hard to get, and a limited option unlock. Back in Classic you needed an entire guilds worth of people to prep for your gong run, you needed to be ready within 10 hours, and you were going to be one of maybe a few people on a server who got it.

Back on my og server back in Classic we had 3 people get it done for example.

Corrupted Ashbringer is more eh, because once TBC came out running Naxx wasn’t so difficult. You just needed enough people who cared since you didn’t have LFR and we had no idea transmogs would eventually be a thing. But sure, it can remain also very exclusive because it was tied to an incredibly difficult raid/encounter few could do. At TBC launch most servers didn’t even have a 4 Horsemen clear.

Mage Tower isn’t either of those. As people said, it was hard for a single patch cycle. By the time Argus hit, it was trivial to complete. Thousands if not millions of people have these mogs. Hell, my cousin has these mogs on her Druid, and she is utterly incompetent and regularly dies to open world content and avoids LFG dungeons for being too difficult. She wanted sparkle cat though, so she just did MT during Argus and had zero problems.

If Blizzard wasn’t doing Legion Remix they could have just left it shelved and most wouldn’t care. Shame that though, because this is the kind of stuff people want to be doing. Giving people something weird to chase in the 3ish months Remix is up for, and giving them a reason to engage with the content.

The salt in the wound here is that for most people the Druid forms are the problem of Mage Tower. Most people aren’t getting upset over the reskins/recolors of artifact weapons they are never going to be using post Legion. It’s just collectors and people who want Blizzard to have an excuse to do something, ANYTHING with MT again because it’s got the potential to be a fun grind.

But the Druid forms are different because they have so few options as is. They’ve got basically five total “weapons” across all the expansions, so losing these actually does matter more. And Blizzard had the perfect chance to just leave the bug in and shrug it off. Saying you know what those forms stay available enjoy Remix.

Instead, they decided to be Blizzard and piss people off further.

Okay, the MT appearances were participation award yet Mythic mounts, which are much much much more difficult to acquire, are still obtainable after the fact. Blizzard is clearly very hypocritical on what is considered a prestigious cosmetic and what isn’t. Especially considering they brought back the aotc mount AND the Chosen Dead sets which were significantly harder to get.

Hhhhhhh
Yyyyyyyy

You lay your bed, now sleep in it

No. I would’ve agreed with you if we were given the chance to earn hard mode pandaria transmog sets during Pandaria Remix. Since they didn’t, no mage tower sets. Learn to live with it like so many other people have, including myself.
