Uninstalled

Now that I have your attention, I am doing a fresh go. I had been encountering some bugs as of late, for instance using OBR, mainly against Soul-binder in Manaforge, was causing FPS issues. It would drop dramatically, then go away when I went back to using regular abilities.

So, at first, I deleted my Cache, WTF, and Interface folders. Then I was like “Lets just do a full reinstall.” Might as well, its good practice in my opinion every few months.

And now, we come to the reason we are here: I would like to know what everyone is using in terms of addons, mainly for UI and Nameplates, and both personal, party, and Raid frames.

I have been using ElvUI and Plater for years now, and more recently Cell and Better Blizzard Frames.

I want to try something different, mainly for ElvUI. And mainly because I think the profile I have backed up is buggered, and I really dont want to go through all that again, ha.

So, whats everyone using?

(And why is WoW playable at 400megs/110gigs?)

I don’t use any UI add-ons. I use the edit mode that comes with the default and the only add-ons I use are the cosmetic ones to do with tracking things and opening a whole lot of mail at one time.

I havent used the base UI…ah since I first started. It was the first addon I installed, SpartanUI I think it was, back then. Lol.

Ive been thinking about trying just Base again.

No addons other than DBM, GTFO, Method Raid Tools and Gathermate.

I like it. I have the ability to customize a lot of things and resize things. I know it’s not for everybody, but it suits my needs and it has just enough customization to make it feel different than the default.

Yeah I’ve never used anything but the base UI, even before they improved on it. It’s perfectly suitable now especially with other addons like plater and stuff to augment it a bit.

Could be better but I’m sure they’ll improve on it over time.

Yeah, I don’t even use plater. I know everybody has their preference of how they like things to look, but I just turn nameplates off by hitting V.

If they were to still allow Plater, but with the Base UI having these new changes, which one would you choose? If they wind up breaking Plater at all…

The whole left side of my keyboard is keybinds and V is one of them so I’m not sure I even have a hotkey for turning off nameplates lol.

Took me a while to even figure out that I needed to set a keybind for pings because that one was already occupied as well.

I’d need to see how their UI changes shook out before I ditched plater. Plater helps a lot as it currently functions but if they made it obsolete I’d definitely ditch the drain on CPU and delete plater.

I’d recommend trying the default UI. It’s honestly pretty extensive anymore, and if you don’t like it, you can always go back to addons. I’ve noticed the less addon’s you have the less the game disconnects, and lags which has been a major plus for me to prune it.

I was honestly blown away by what the default UI is capable nowadays, it is nothing like it used to be.

I applaud your efforts here – I did a similar thing in the DF prepatch (when Edit Mode was added) and I found I didn’t need Dominoes anymore.

I don’t expect to abandon WeakAuras any time soon so that’s still useful for sharing and one-offs, but with Edit Mode and the built-in click casting, you can definitely skip things like Dominos and Clique/Grid. It is up to you if you wanna keep things like DBM or BigWigs/LittleWigs, but they’re easy to turn on/off without having to re-do your whole UI.

I think a good unit frame mod is still nice (I happen to like Shadowed Unit Frames), but I think the right weakaura that hides the uglier parts of the base UI might get you most of the way there. I still use ThreatPlates as my plate mod because i like colorcoding mob bars by threat.

Good luck!

I always thought about if they had an addon-free server and what progress would look like there.

I’d at least try it out, to see how things are.

8/10 troll topic name, i appreciate it.

I had to do a full reinstall after getting a new pc this year, and started from zero with addons. I was worried it would be horrible, but blizzard has baked so many addons in already that it took no time getting back to how i wanted it.

Make sure to use Revo Uninstaller. Get all of the hidden flies out, too.

I don’t do nameplates, so nothing there. And I use the base UI editor for my bars. Then Chattynator, SexyMap, Leatrix Maps and Plus.

I would have dropped spell detail in graphics and maybe done a scan and repair before I reloaded the entire darn game. I have had this computer since 2019 and i have maybe replaced battle.net once, but then I don’t raid on it.

How very interesting. Many are just using base UI. That is very interesting to me. I think I will def go ahead and try using it in all the content I do, as a baseline. How curious.

Lol yea, that was the first things ive done. I am fairly tech savy, so I did all the usual troubleshooting before.

Dang it. Not the content I clicked for.

I want to get rid of elvui though, but I’m scared. Will probably try cell at some point. But I can’t let go of plater, WAs, or details. I honestly could probably lose bigwigs and still be ok at the level I play at.

I still use ElvUI because it fixes some current performance issues in the game

Something about limiting abilities you see is currently borked and IIRC ElvUI has a fix for it
