Ok 15% nerf of 18% isn’t that much, but I really feel this should apply to pve only. Deathknights are severely lacking in PvP due to having the worst defensive cooldowns of any melee in the game, disregarding survival hunters.
Our only counter to having low defensives is that we are able to pump high damage. Please consider this, it’s pretty clear looking at the arena ladder that unholy does not need a damage nerf in pvp. They are by far the lowest represented melee class.

They said working on it internally. Not the final number. UH DKs aren’t as bad as people say. Could use some tuning on the healing side though

Its so fkgn obvious that the devs play rogues is not even funny, sub are still gods and we didnt see a single significant nerf to them. Dks get a bit ahead for the 2 WEEKS INTO THE EXPANSION and the devs: “haha dks nerfs go brrr”

Correction, its clear the devs do absolutely no pvp and focus 99% on pve balancing. UH Dk was doing good in aoe and single target raid. Not sure we needed the nerf more than some classes need some love. But clearly this had nothing to do with pvp. I do find it funny that nothing was done to MM when its performing just as well in raid and doing stupid dmg in pvp. Rogue dmg in pvp we’re not going to talk about

Not to mention that they gave crumb buffs to classes that are starving for DPS

I mean the Mastery nerf is just not surprising. I think Unholy is solid even with the Mastery Nerf.
I just wish they didn’t touch the Shadow Damage increase because I thought that was fine. Until they added pet damage on it resulting in making bonkers weight on Mastery.
What I can’t figure out is why they didn’t just nerf Unholy Blight. It’s a fairly safe bet UH having high single target is what they found questionable, and smacking that down would’ve fixed ST without affecting AoE or gutting its burst.
It’s because Mastery is very lucrative of a secondary stat compared to Demo Locks and BM Hunters.
REALLY wish they’d just split the ratings for both Shadow Damage and Pet Damage.

Sub Rogue not getting touched despite deleting people in a few seconds doesn’t make sense either.
haha no sub rogue nerfs and dem tears of the DK

st f u dude you’re always trhowing sh… on unholy dk… unholy is NOW pet based damage. Festering strike hitting 2k critical HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If they nerf the pets, the dk will be real garbage
What?
Dude, I’m just saying that Unholy Mastery is really lucrative compared to Demo Locks and BM Hunter Masteries.
The nerf for the Unholy Mastery is not a surprise.
So thats your point, you wish the dk nerfed because your demo and BM not having the dk NEW mastery. You can see the numbers even with 50% plus damage on shadow abilities from mastery, the dmg coming from non-pets damage is very very very bad.
top dmg source pet : 130k dps
MM 400k dps: aimed
festering strike: 35k dps
nerf the mastery/pets and unholy is dead.
I did not say DK needed to be nerfed nor did I wish Unholy to be nerfed. I think Unholy is solid as is. Pet Damage or not. The OG Unholy Mastery was good enough. I am saying that the pet damage they added back in October pretty much made Unholy bonkers in pet damage along with UB damage scaling.
I am just irked that my own Shadow Damage got nerfed because of Pets are actually strong right now. I don’t care about minions getting nerfed even though they are now an integral part of my damage.
Festering Strike is not a damaging ability anyway. It does Physical Damage. Our main damage comes from Apoc. Along with Festercleaving shenanigans and VP. Unholy has many different damage sources that players can select to specialize in.
It’s just pets are strong right now that even my Defile build is a bit affected.
Also you can’t compare Unholy to a MM Hunter like that. Their damage structure is entirely different. Comparing FeS to a Aimed Shot is a total miss.
EDIT: Case in point, nobody is surprised about the nerfs. Unholy was TOP DPS in Castle Nathria according to the logs. The main culprit was the Mastery was being overtuned and far more lucrative than other secondary stats. I’m not saying it needed to be nerfed. I’m just telling you what is going to happen to the Mastery post-buff that I’ve predicted last week.
why are u saying that shadow damage got nerfed? dk mastery was a dead stat in bfa. Good luck with the old mastery, new mastery was my reason for playing DK again. Blood sucks post legion and i never like frost.
Because Unholy’s current mastery buffs shadow damage and pet damage. By nerfing the mastery, they curtailed both.

The Shadow Damage is getting nerfed. They’re reducing Mastery effectiveness by 15%.
For both Shadow Damage and Pet Damage.
that is still a big buff compared to bfa where it was the dead stat, just imagine the pets not scaling with mastery. Or imagine the mastery just giving half % to pets… The problem is:
Dk for itself is not doing damage, even with pro mastery before nerf DK sucks except for pet damage…
Frost plague > virulent plague GG
fertering wounds damage is a joke
festering strike is big joke for the cost of 2 runes bad damage and giving still 2 wounds , 3 with rng.
POST DATA: 47% mastery and shadow damage is very low, even with 80% (theotar buff) the damage is not OP.
remember the DR after 47% and the bad scaling from shadow damage (not pets)

From 47% to 54% , there’s a 30% penalty .

From 54% to 66% , there’s a 40% penalty .

From 66% to 126% , there’s a 50% penalty
I think the OG Mastery still gives pet damage if they deal Shadow Damage. I might be totally wrong on this though. Because otherwise Gary would be even more of a dead talent.
But I think you’re underestimating how a boring +% Type of Magic Damage can impact your damage in the long run. Prior to the pet damage buff, iirc both Frost and Unholy has the same ratings, same bonus. One buffs Frost damage, the other buffs Shadow damage.
You will do damage if you pop Apoc. Pets was just extra especially with Magus in BfA that iirc shoot frostbolt that slows and shadow bolts that scales with your OG mastery. If the OG mastery didn’t scale with Magus, it was just Magus was a crazy powerful Azerite Trait.
Wounds don’t do damage unless you get Festering Pustules. It was actually really good in BfA. Since Festermight was a thing, you’re far more incentivized to pop them. Now is just… I agree, there isn’t much to pop. xD
Virulent Plague enables your Epidemic, your ripple AoE. Ripple AoE is a powerful stuff man. Epidemic is baseline now. Use it. Not in PvP silly… but in AoE situations in PvE. I actually cheese the meters with Epidemic in Epic BGs. :^)
FeS has a strong base physical damage that grants 20 RP. It doesn’t scale well with anything else. It’s a setup ability to synergize the abilities you’ll use later. You’re not expected to do a lot of damage with it. In fact, for a setup ability it does decent amount of damage. Just not enough.
Next thing you’ll tell me is that you used Apoc and still don’t do damage? I mean yes, nerfing our pet damage will hurt our pvp viability further as it is our main source of pvp damage atm and it sucks.
Good news is that your pet scales with your haste. So haste is not too bad either.

How’d survival hunters even come into this
We are like one of the best classes at surviving rogue bursts
