Unholy is too Rng dependent... its annoying

So, unholy has alot of RNG, and its damage is overly loaded into cooldowns.

First, unholy relies ENTIRELY on runic corruption to get its runes back. No runic corruption= no rotation. Runic corruption is an RNG, and instead of a flat chance of getting runic corruption, its a 1.4% per runic power you spend, which of course makes Death coil more likely to proc it by like 7% than deathstrike. :frowning: Why is this little detail involved? IDK.

Anyways, We rely on getting off Death coils to proc runic power. You would think death coil is a fairly reliable proc, yes? NO. Sudden Doom to the RNG rescue, we now have a chance to proc a free deathcoil off of our autoattacks. Nevermind the fact that our normal runepower generation is not sufficient to fire enough deathcoils to keep our runes up, which results in us starving unless our sudden doom procs. :expressionless:

So, what did blizzard give us to fix this problem? An ability that is on a 45 second cooldown that fixes our rune starvation for exactly 1 rotation. Soul reaper. They also gave us a bunch of cooldowns that supposedly help us out by dropping a bunch of festering wounds on the target, so we don’t have to use festering strike so much. Those abilities NEVER seem to come up enough to keep the rotation going. Sure, we do dps, but the rotation feels like an ugly junker of a car with a loose piston that is shaking and sputtering down the road. It doesn’t feel like a smooth rotation.

So, here is my suggestion.

  1. make runic corruption a 100% proc, but reduce its recharge speed of our runes by 50%. That would make our rune regeneration smoother, and although it would be slower, it would be more consistent and keeping up a death coil tempo would be important.

  2. Have festering strike give a known number of wounds. 2-4 wounds is an inconsistent number, and messes with clean rotations. Just give 3 wounds.

  3. Soul reaper needs to be made baseline as part of our rotation. In addition, you should cut its damage and cooldown by 2/3rds. That way, we can get our two runes that we need to complete our rotation once every 15 seconds. Yes, the burst damage potential goes down, but our consistent dps goes up equaling out the damage caused over 45 seconds by the ability.

  4. Sudden doom needs to go away. In it’s place, reduce the cost of deathcoil from 40 runic power to 33 runic power. This way, our deathcoil shots have a smooth known number of deathcoils instead of the insane jitter we have now.

Very few specs are smooth to play below max level. Once you get more Haste from gear, it gets better.

If you had made this argument in Legion (particularly 7.0 with the legendary bracers), we’d be in agreement, but it’s not that bad these days. I have very little downtime.

Outlaw is more rng dependant tbh. UHs really have some problems with CDs management but i agree, they need to fix DK’s resources system.
