less then 12k parse for the raid on warcraft logs compared to frost sitting at 40k parse, and for M+ they sit at 200k recorded player comapred to the 800k frost dk.
For too long the damage profile of unholy has been too hard for new players and with the current state of our talent tree, you are forced to choose between good Aoe and ok ST damage.
In M+ our damage profile make any key that is outgeared by the group UNFUN, you never have time to burst properly, you can never have your cds back for the important moments unless you are pushing.
Our ST damage is so reliant on our initial burst with all cds that when a situation come where A you didn’t have cds to start the fight you barely do more then 600k damage(I have a 90ish parsing in raid and 97% parsing in keys) or B a mecanic happen that force you to focus on something esle and lose your burst window and completly ruin your boss fight.
No wonder everyone is playing frost when all you have to do has a rotation to do OK damage(not saying mastering the rotation) is use your Obliterate procs in DnD and you will do better damage then your average Unholy dk, its Heartbreaking that the spec is being left in the current state.
Yes if you are an insane player and your group is pulling around your cds and you get to do massive Aoe you can do good damage overall but for the average player I think the spec is Awful rotation too dependent of your cds getting value unlike Frost and our ST damage is in the GUTTER. the only saving grace is that with time groups will get more gears and know the dungeons better allowing bigger pulls that suit the damage profile but I wouldn’t count on that factor to change how the spec feel.

Frost is stronger this season so there are more people playing it.
In DF unholy was stronger for the majority of the time and we saw more people playing it than frost.
Both specs are tuned very well currently.
People are completing high keys and doing the mythic raid with both specs.
Both specs require tanks to pull around CDs in order to shine. BOS is a very big 2 min cd.

Unholy Dk.
Full Plate. Forced to use a 2 handed weapon.
Has no impactful Melee Attack.
Has to do the Melee Dance, but it’s best attack is a green bubble to throw.
20 Minions that are either bugged, get stuck, or dont operate correctly.
But hey. Least In a boss fight. Those numbers are decent, am I right folks?
Suffer Well.

that is so true, the amount of bug with the minions is unreal, even now the monstruosity doesnt refresh dots like it should!

i think a lot of frost dks are fotm rerollers, but every unholy i’ve invited on any of my chars top the meters by a lot

It’s cause Unholy rotation remains mainly unchanged in over a decade.

This is the main reason. Meta slaves see frost DK as a top choice on most tier lists, and boom, frost DK gets loads of representation.
Unholy is still good.
Also disagree with this, the build I use has almost 0 ramp up time and does fantastic AoE.
Go try it out, the festering scythe build goes hard.

it’s not that we aren’t good, its that the amount of effort/reward ratio is hugely different, and that they definetly made our ST damage WAY too weak.

What? Unholy is considered by most top players the easier spec especially after TWW changes. Are you not playing BOS Frost?
That is what Unholy excels at…
Look at a fight like mythic sikran.
Despite the fact that all the top DK’s are playing frost there are 3 unholy in the top 5.
Nah, the 2nd largest draw to frost is how easy it is to pilot.

The raid has a lot of burst aoe and iirc unholy isn’t known for it’s aoe burst.
