I am looking to main a new melee spec. I really enjoy both of these specs, but I only want to focus on one at the moment. I dont know how they perform endgame though. I normally play solo, specifically run old content for mounts and transmog. Most group content I do is normal dungeons, I might try raiding this xpac.
Unholy I like because it feels strong. I like seeing all the dots on enemies then BOOM they are dead. I can also offspec Blood, though tanking terrifies me but I might try it with a core group down the road.
Survival I like because I have traps. I can pick and choose whatever pet I want, I like pets. Feign Death has saved my butt a couple times. I really like the mobility of the class. And if I get tired of melee, I can go BM or MM.
Which one would you recommend for soloing content? Which one would be more beneficial to a group in Normal dungeons and Normal Raids?
explosives, beasts, traps, poison vs smelly undead and popping zits to do damage. Your choice

Well, I have mained a Hunter, and then added DK to that short list come wrath, since many moons ago, and those are two different recommendations coming from me. Not that my opinion means squat. But, yah know, gotta try 
SV is SO much more fun the UH. Thematically, UH should be awesome. But it just falls short when it comes to game-play. Not sure what it is but I just have a hard time getting into the playstyle.
When it comes to world play, SV is just so much more mobile. You feel like you can just keep going at ridiculously high run speeds. Dot mobs up, drop a bomb on their head, slow them with tar, and watch them burn on the way to the next group. Or, if you prefer to stand your ground, your also are pretty dang tanky with almost an effective double health pool shared with your pet. And, regardless of what the forums will tell you, you do really respectable damage in all content. Especially in AoE situations.
For group play - What we lack is unique utility. Just about everyone can slow, stun, hero, and/or any combination of the three, at this point. Aggro isn’t ever an issue so MD is wasted. So all we bring, that can’t easily be covered by someone else with another unique utility, is damage. and for high end content that’s isn’t considered to be enough. UH Brings Brez and AMZ. Those two make for HUGE utility comparatively to Hunter. While lust is awesome amazing and you want it. You can grab just about any other lust class and get the same or better other utility than SV.
Now … you asked about normals. The chances that picking DK over Hunter will matter in your runs are slim-to-none. The same is true for heroics. You’ll be slamming through that stuff pretty quick with anyone you want once you get your cov gear going, which also happens pretty dang quick at this point.
