Hey all! I am making a new DK, Unholy spec, and want some input on race. I have a few choices. I am interested in fun, utility, and looks over absolute best performance.
Night Elf - Shadowmeld, 2% run speed. Uses corrupted nature magic to create undead.
Void Elf - Teleport. Uses the void to create undead.
Dark Iron Dwarf - 4% run speed inside, mole machine. Digs and finds undead to raise.
Worgen - Sprint. Werewolf.
I picked a VE for my alt, because although I was also interested in a NE I think that most transmog sets look terrible on them (really slender and it seems they have their chest inwards)
Mine is Female, and I havent really noticed the same thing, hmm.
I recently race changed from VE to Night Elf and I’m so happy. We get a special pouty face. The customization looks so good.
Out of the four you listed, Night Elf and Dark Iron Dwarf feel more fleshed out and I’m a firm believer of feeling more attached to a character you have some kind of backstory for.
Ya good point! I have so many VE because I like the way they look and their animations but only one DID, so that might be a good choice here. NE shadowmeld is a great quality of life thing for me if I get interrupted by playing.
From a lore standpoint? Literally any race with significant numbers in Dalaran. We’re only a few short decades passed two serious purges in the City of Magi; one where Kel’thuzad was banished (and safe bet considering the Cult of the Damned 's size and reach that many mages followed him), followed by an undead army LITERALLY purging the city (turning to the power that destroyed your home is a pretty major fantasy trope).
I guess opinion, pondering, experience, lore…just having a hard time deciding.
The gear looks decidedly better on the male Human model than most others.
You forgot one.
Human. The best PvE AND PvP racials for DK in the entire game and transmog will always look good.
That’s because Blizzard uses the male human, and only the male human, to make ALL the armor sets in the game. Even the heritage armor is designed on humans, which is why you see so much clipping on things like Tauren heritage or Kul Tiran.
you left out the best two then- human [pvp] and draenei [looks; racial heal; overall awesome].
NE for da meld.
Humans and Dark Irons have the strongest racials I’d argue, at least for PvP.
If you care more for fun though then I think Worgen look the coolest out of those DK choices. You’re pretty much playing a horror-themed class with zombies and vampirism, why not throw in some lycanthropy in the mix and be the Monster Mash in one single character?
Mechagnome master race
I finally settled on Worgen female. Odd I know, but it fit what I was looking for. And I can always shift to female human when I want to look good 
honestly, my first ally dk was worgen. she is still 110 on korgath because i hated her so much; not sure why, i thought i’d love the class too.
as you can see, i made a completely new dk when my guild moved to sargeras before bfa… and i love pve’ing and pvping with her.
I don’t recommend worgen male. Their combat animations turned me away.

I am not sure if night fae is still the best choice for Dk’s either, but being a night elf DK kinda fits the death/rebirth motto of that covenant.

Tmogs look pretty good. and I like the Animations night elves have
flips >>>>> twirls
we are also the only race than can change the whispy eye color if you so choose
Lightforged draenei because we have a racial that synergizes with dying. For real though you haven’t played death knight until you death grip your light’s judgement target into the middle of a pack.
