Howdy I just boosted this character and yes I did , I am wanting to know how to do AOE and Single Target burst damage. All I know how to use is scouring strike and festering strikes if I use those two anyways. I just want a simple explanation not a 25 minute video lol. ty
For aoe, you pray your blood beast spawns at the right time so you get to do a billion damage

With UH you actually have a number of builds that work pretty well this season!
Don’t like pressing too many buttons? Sanlayn UDK (you’ll be pressing Scourge Strike a LOT) and it’s performing better. Want movement speed? Rider UDK.

Don’t talent builds change between dungeons? They sure do and you can see what people use at https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/43?class=DeathKnight&spec=Unholy&leaderboards=1 for the top keys. I’ve changed it to logs only because leaderboards atypically don’t have as much information.

To read Icy Veins rotation guide on a new spec, I think it would make sense to read all your spells and passives first, and all the talents. Then the guide will make more sense!

Spend some time at the target dummy, then read Icy Veins.
It’s part of the San’layn hero talent tree.
As for the AOE rotation, there’s actually a few variants.
My favorite one is to just spec into Festering Scythe + Defile. You just drop defile and spam your regular spells. I would avoid Vile Contagion right now.
Also I’m just learning that if you spec into San’layn you press Death Coil over Epidemic, which I really like the sound of.

I am also a Unholy dk newb (not exactly was frost).
I have the Rider’s build. This is my newb rotation:
Lay down Defile
Raise Abomination
Unholy assault, increasing damage by 20%
Dark transformation either here or later, to help sustain damage when your big guy goes away
Outbreak
Scourge Strike
Apocalypse
Festering strike
Epidemic
Reapply Defile
Death coil on proc
Soul reaper when enemy has low heath
Defensives in between
And repeat. You do the most damage when unholy assault with raise abomination is up. Try to cast defile as often as possible. Train on the pvp dummies on rooftop in Dorn.
Edit: I runeforged my weap with Rune of the Apocalypse at Ebon Hold, and seems good for damage. YMMV.
Again I am newb at this, but it’s an aoe build that reminds me of demo lock. I use it in delves and works great. I do not have great luck in pvp with this Unholy DK build at all.
I miss pre-Legion DK. I applied my dots then spread them. I’d use the appropriate spells to consume my different colored runes. Life was simple and good.
