Unexpected New lore for Dracthyr classes in the PTR

Who mew the dracthyr weren’t all evokers when evoker is the prime version of them as well all the non-evoker weapons scattered about.

The only lore that doesn’t allow a race to be a class is for Earthen Death Knights (can;t turn a stone into undead).

I mean Blizz making them available.

It’s a double standard.

Double standards are bad mmk?

What if we replace their gems with like saronite, carve runes on them, and bring them out of stasis?

Eh not true. Earthen have souls.

Earthen DKs could just have their souls put back in their body.

That’s what undeath is, when your soul is imperfectly reattached to a corpse

Perhaps they could be made by the Ebon Blade by engraving runes on them.

They are quite literally machines.

Yeah, earth machines with souls…

They’re not AI…

Look at mimiron…

They’re just exactly like them. Got it.

Yeah, there’s a reason in the intro why we’re called “evoker” by a lot of the other NPCs, it’s a title with some distinction. There are plenty of dracthyr who are not evokers.

AI can’t experience emotions… Like fearing death.

Again, literally mimiron is a robot with a soul.

Earthen originally were AI, programmed with their Edicts and the like. The fact that they’re exhibiting individuality and experiencing emotion is actually an early symptom of the Curse of Flesh.

If you’re not aware, that’s the curse that was inflicted upon the Titan constructs like clockwork gnomes and Earthen which eventually turned them into gnomes, troggs, and dwarves as we know them.

This is why the curse is seen as an especially bad thing by the titans. It not only makes their creations mortal, but it gives them a desire for freedom and self actualization. That’s not something the titans wanted them to have lol

Perfect. So playable earthen have the potential to be DKs.

Dragon super soldiers created for the purpose to kill dragons while weilding the power of the flights.

Decides to use no magic and shoot arrows?

The Wardens were essentially warlocks with their mastery over the fel

Not all Dracs were evokers

I’m not sure how much I’d call this a retcon though. There were very clearly more “soldierish” Dracthyr all over the place in Dragonflight, including some we watched be woken up from stasis. I’m thinking mainly of Emberthal here.

The classes that Dracthyr are unlocking aren’t really lore-heavy classes. Warrior, Rogue, Mage, Hunter, Priest… these are classes available to every single race in the game and for good reason. They’re generic classes that are mostly associated with just plain old martial skill or study without tying their power to a specific power source. They don’t get any of the really lore-specific classes, which I would describe as Druid, Paladin, or Shaman. So it’s hard to see this as a retcon. Obviously not every Dracthyr woken from stasis was an Evoker so for the ones that weren’t, it makes sense for them to be any of the variety of generic classes that literally every single race has access to.

Dracthyr don’t have interesting racials for these classes as far as impact on game play. Not for Heals or DPS.

The tail swipe and wing buffet might make for interesting Prot Warrior additions to their tool kit, for PvP and PvE.

Other than their passive Mastery, Seems like a labor of love on the level of Vulpera.

45% speed boost if you are on top of your glide usage is fairly huge for a priest.

Should make burning rush a dead button for lock just about as well.

why would you want to play a dracthyr anyway?
Do you hate your group?
your raid?
your guild?

Weren’t the Dracthyr put in stasis 20000 years ago?
