Undocumented Deathgate Changes

My deathgate when used from Acherus is porting me back to the exact spot I gated from instead of the nearest graveyard. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: additionally the deathgate return function no longer seems to be working from lights hope chapel. :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

So an overall net buff?

it’s a neat change, but we lost a travel exploit in the process. you used to be able to set your hearth at lights hope chapel and still use the return gate function as it reached their from old acherus.

this let you gate to acherus, port to dal/org, hit up the AH, then hearth to LHC, then gate back out to the field where you were. I’ve been doing this to pop in and out of raids since the acherus revamp. gating from old acherus now sends you to new acherus instead of enabling the return function.

Oh man this is great news. Death gate used to do this when it was first released and I think I first noticed the change in Legion. I much prefer to be take back to the exact spot I missed that so much.

fake news from Fakenews

why are you invisible?

A race change in process maybe? I feel like I saw them as a Troll recently, but now it looks like they’re a Blood Elf.

after looking for a workaround i found that once you leave acherus the gate return is reset, so if you come back and open your gate, you will just go back to the port in spot.

@ the devs: thanks, i hate it.

You guys need to think about how many positives there are to this. You port up real quick to change your talents and port right back to same spot. If you don’t have a mount vendor boom same thing.

Most of all though now we can set up a cool death knight invasion. Run your DK into alliance town and death gate out. Now I don’t know if they changed this back too but it used to keep your gate destination even if you logged out. Which means you could log back in and have a bunch of DK’s randomly porting in an alliance city and raiding it.

In fact the way it used to work you could death gate up and then fly out of your class hall to save a location for the future. Then as long as you flew back to the class hall before using your death gate you would port back to that same location even if you had logged out.

Anyway I like to port up to change talents and having to spawn back at a gy is a pain.

we could do that before

they broke this functionality.

Nah porting up to change talents and then porting back can be a huge pain the butt sometimes when it sends you to the nearest gy instead. Such as when you are outside a dungeon or raid and all you want to do is change 1 talent, you don’t want to come back to a gy you want to come back to the dungeon entrance.

so walk inside and gate.

I’m struggling to even think of a time I wanted to be sent to a graveyard.

Yay, great change! So annoying being sent far away to a graveyard.

Does deathgate work inside a m+? If so that’s a great way to change talents RQ and come right back

Death Gate always put you near a graveyard

That’s simply not true, unless it was renamed death gate when they made that change. I can’t remember if the name changed or not.

Deathgate was changed a while back, mop or wod, i can’t remember, but it would gate you back to the nearest graveyard you gated in from. prior to that it was one way you were stuck out in EPL waiting on a summon or your hearthstone.

legion gave us an updated spell to go to the new broken isle acherus, but the return functionality was unchanged, till now.

our pets have a massive problem but this deserved more dev attention.

This is false. I played wow with my DK when death gate was two way and took you back to exactly where you gated from. It also saved where you gated from even if you logged out.

i have main’d dk for 10 years and spent hundreds if not thousands of hours in acherus. it never ported you back to the same spot until now. it’s always been graveyards because of the relation to undeath. in fact we used to suggest the idea of a supergate in acherus that would let you pick any graveyard to port out to.

yes it did, and had no limit on this save, ie you could go months, the new one seems to lose it’s save after a few minutes of being logged out.
