I remember near the end of Legion one of the devs had mentioned one of the secrets in Legion was never discovered by players. This was after the mount/pet boss was discovered. I’m not sure if this “other” secret was ever found or perhaps it was the endless halls stuff, but it got me thinking.
Do you think there are still secret things in WoW from prior xpacs that still remain undiscovered? I realize mounts/pet/items can be datamined, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still obscure secrets out there, even if it’s just a little lore tidbit or an ocean cave nobody else has ever found.
One thing that comes to mind is the strange Owl of the Watcher warden statues in Aszuna. They can be clicked on and sometimes give buffs, but there are some who feel there is much more to these statues (including the non-interactable ones that point in a specific direction).
So, what do you think? Has every dark corner of this game been poked and prodded, or are there things still awaiting discovery in old content?
I doubt it, you will have software developers go through blizzards game code and read it to see what secrets the game has. People are good like that and I highly doubt there are secrets remaining.
I would be willing to bet there are things in every expansion that were never uncovered, maybe not things that give rewards… but in terms of lore related secrets or hidden meanings… who knows.
I think it’s possible. I remember reading an article a long time ago that a secret side quest in FF9 wasn’t found until several years later. I could see the same thing happening with WoW.
Pretty sure the source code isn’t available to the public. I think you mean the dataminers that go through the game files. They can find stuff, sure. But not necessarily how or where to find it. Like the puzzles/riddles that require many multiple steps.
I spent a lot of time in Legion chasing a secret fishing questline with the murlocs and pearls that I’m pretty sure doesn’t actually exist.
I’ve sort of lost interested in secrets over the last expansion or two. One or two were nostalgic for ancient games where everything was undocumented, but now it just feels there’s far too much information that already has to be googling outside the game and I’m reminded why I quit playing all those old games.
Blizz has said before there were multiple past secrets even pre-dating Legion that have never been discovered to this day. So yeah! It’s totally possible and confirmed really there are things we missed.
But since we have no leads on who, what, how and where it’s really hard to even imagine what they could be, secrets big or small. That’s a lot of aimless ground to cover.
Personally I am not convinced the Stormcrow mount from MoP is not in game. I like to believe it is somewhere out there and was secretly added either in 5.4 or in WoD.
I don’t think it went undiscovered. The community is pretty quick on getting all of these things and they’ve combed the entirety of Legion unless it was something behind a ridiculous barrier. Kind of like how some artifact appearances only dropped after certain AK ranks, this led to a lot of rogue argument on the discord with people swearing Thunderfury bindings dropped off certain bosses and others doing it 200 times and not seeing them because they were pre AK like 8.
Honestly, if there are the developers now most certainly aren’t going to know about them. They don’t even remember what pretty big things are that ended up going nowhere. I.E Gun’drak tail where the devs were just puzzled even seeing it like it didn’t exist. Unless there’s some big secret they managed to avoid having been found and haven’t spoiled themselves or alluded to they have stashed away. Which is what I wouldn’t be shocked if it happens, devs probably throw in little hints incognito for some of the ridiculous puzzles like the cat which stalled for about 6 months.
