Underwhelming - The whole game is now a side quest

OP sounds like you’re not having fun

I suggest talking a break, and come back when you’re ready to enjoy the game again.

Sorry, it’s just lame. You’re free to be wrong though.

Have you actually played it or is your opinion based on 3rd party experiences?

“Watching streamers play” Key words. I’ve got an idea, why don’t YOU play and make up your own mind? I know, radical eh? There is a main story line/quest chain and of course there are side quests. By the way, some of the best leveling loot comes from the side quests.

Some of the posts on these forums truly make me scratch my head and wonder where basic intelligence has gone.

I love that you think opinion can be “wrong” when it’s not tied to facts. You’re welcome to explain why you feel it’s lame, it’d be a good discussion. But if all you’ve got it “It’s lame” then alright, you don’t personally like it. That’s not the same as there actually being 0 tension or threat.

You know, I agree. Are we just getting old? It does feel like Zereth Mortis. Dammit.

Vanilla Classic release was just a few years ago and I loved that. I was genuinely surprised how much I liked it because I didn’t play until Wrath and didn’t reach max level until Cata. Vanilla Classic was among the most fun I ever had in WoW.

It just didn’t have any lasting power. Once I did what I wanted to do that was it.

For me, with regard to present WoW, I think WoW had to idea how to innovate on the game design post-Legion and they had no idea where to go with the story post-BfA. Budget cuts and talented developers leaving haven’t helped.

Same here. I had a blast in Classic but much of it might have been nostalgia. I cant tell.

Modern WoW is different…

Part of WoW’s problem is MMO’s are a dying genre and dying genres don’t attract talent. Talented people don’t want to go into fields where the skills they develop won’t be transferrable elsewhere.

There is a field called Actuarial Science and there are 3 main fields of it - life insurance, general insurance, and pensions.

Pensions is a dying field because unions and whatnot have died out and pensions are dying out. That field gets the weakest university graduates because the top students do not want to go into it because the skills they develop will quickly become obsolete and won’t be transferrable.

It’s the same thing with developers and MMOs/WoW.

Day 3 Doomsayer spotted!

I enjoy it.

Right now it’s closer to adventurers again, we’re not “the chosen ones with the power of fate and everything rests on us to do everything and we’re going to go and punch God.”

The power creep is finally being toned down for once, and even if it only lasts a few patch cycles, it’s a nice return as somehow who likes game lore in general.

Khadgar calling me “adventurer” again while in Azure Span felt way nicer than I anticipated instead of just constantly hearing “champion” over and over.

because i refuse to pay for a game i can see is clearly sub par for free. plus, if they’re streaming it and supporting it, doesn’t my NOT supporting it based on the same content being viewed, how is that NOT the definition of forming my OWN opinions? My opinions go AGAINST the streamers.

We don’t need to be constantly fighting off the end of the world 24/7…

To me it seems like they’ve turned the whole game into a big jumping puzzle full of mini-games. I’m sure there’s a segment of the player base that loves Kirin Tor puzzles and the myriad of World Quest mini-games. I’m just not one of them.

I’ve got almost 500 mounts I’ve been collecting for 18 years, but now I have to ride a dragon glider and do jumping puzzles everywhere. I’m still in the intro zone but every time I run into yet another mini-game quest I exit the game. I’m just not feeling it this time around. I keep waiting for the spark but instead my tolerance gets lower every login.

Unfortunately I bought the collector’s edition, have 5 months left and over $100 in credits. So I keep hoping I change my mind.

I LOVE THAT SM FR. I ALWAYS HATED THE WHOLE “youre the hope for this world without you its all screwed pls save us even though we’re literal gods in the lore and can blow this planet up in one bad look” I love it sm that you’re a champion, a hero, but at that, just a person with a lot of feats, but just your everyday person nonetheless

Hard disagree. This feels much more like old wow than it has since before WoD. At long last, you’re IN a world again, you’re not the singular point of all existence. That is a GOOD thing. Enough of this silly “chosen one” nonsense. The whole point of the game was to be lost amidst locations and events that are bigger than yourself. When you’re literally saving the universe or abolishing a literal Hell, it makes YOU the whole point of everything.

BFA was okay. I would argue the horde EASILY got the meatier slide of the bone in that one, but it wasn’t atrocious as far as questing and story went. It was the soul crushing over simplicity of the underlying systems and the hyper-grind they introduced that ultimately broke people.

you’re right. i had this feeling, too. like ah yes finally wow is wow again

WoW has pretty much always been better at side quests than major story arcs. Vanilla WoW was nothing BUT side quests, and look how well that worked out. And after the train wreck into a nuclear dumpster fire that was the Shadowlands “main story,” I am ALL IN for World of Sidequests!
